Welcome to another Sunday NMP Nation! The volleyball season is starting to get its wheels turning, with a busy week in New Mexico. Teams moved up, some down and other are new to the Top-25 (26 if you have viewed the rankings). Makes for a fun day recapping the week.

More: Week 2 in Rewind | Week 3 Top-25 Rankings | Week 2 Scoreboard

Week Two: Some Teams On The Rise, Others Not So Much

Team of the Week: Roswell (2-0)

Yes, we know that the Lady Coyotes opening victories are over 4A programs. However, the Lady Coyotes opening win was over (previous ranked No. 19) Ruidoso Lady Warriors. The Lady Coyotes not only won its opening games, they did it in convincing fashion.

Alright, I See You: Magdalena (3-0)
Making the surprise visit at the top of our story is the 2A Magdalena Steers. The Steers started the season off with back-to-back wins over Socorro but the reason you see this little engine that could is the upset of then Top-25 ranked (No. 22) Aztec High School. The Steers shocked the volleyball community with a win over a Top-25 team.

Night and Day: Gadsden (1-1)
The Lady Panthers fell in the rankings for week-3 as we are still unsure who this Panthers team is at the moment. They breeze past Hobbs (3-1) but didn't show well to Centennial (0-3). Yes, Centennial is the third ranked team in New Mexico but we wanted a fight. Junior Lauren Sifuentes (2017/MH) right now is a name to know for the Lady Panthers.

They Moved Up? Cleveland (0-1)
Okay, yes we know that the Lady Storm lost last week to East Lake (TX) but it was a move up by subtraction. Other teams just didn't have enough to jump other teams, with Rio Rancho falling.

Free Falling: Rio Rancho (0-1)
Well, Storm lose and move up a spot. The reason Rio Rancho fell drastically is the loss to 5A Artesia (1-2) that is hanging on at the ledge of the Top-25.The Rams are one of those unknown teams for the season and this loss hurt.

Staying Seated: 3A Rankings
In 3A all the teams stayed 1-5 and the highlight right now could be the Santa Rosa Lady Lions (or Lioness) with a 2-0 start with wins over 4A East Mountain and 3A Estancia.

Shake 'Em Up, Shake 'Em Up (Ice Cube reference): 2A Rankings
In 2A we had a shake the ranking order as the Magdalena Steers have done early work (listed above). Also, another team to take a 'Long' look at is the Longhorns of Logan. A big upset win over then ranked #1 in 2A, Melrose over the weekend.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JENNA BUTCHER
Artesia, 2016, MB
Butcher helped lead the Bulldogs to a week two win over Rio Rancho and even in the loss to Silver, Butcher held her own with 16-blocks in the loss. In the win over Rio Rancho, Butcher had 9 kills. She currently leads the state in kills with (30) all coming last week!

Others To Consider: Stat Line
Jessica Garcia (Chaparral): Leads the state with a .357 hitting percentage.
Justena Galindo (Artesia): 85 assists all come from week 2.
Jenika Padilla (West Las Vegas): 7 Kills in win over Mora.
Addison Lewis (Hobbs): 9 digs vs Centennial.

Week 2 Top Performances: Please list those we are missing.

WEEK 3 RANKINGS AND WHAT'S TO COME

Biggest drop: Rio Rancho went from 11 to 20 in the top-25.
Biggest leap: Clovis from unranked to 19.
Unknown to Known: Roswell (22) and Santa Teresa (24) both unranked now ranked.
Bye-Bye: Aztec and Ruidoso both fall out of the rankings after rough starts.
New #1 in 3A: Silver makes the leap to No. 1 with a 2-0 start.
0-0, 0-0: Hopefully this changes this coming week.
