NMPreps New Mexico High School Volleyball Team Rankings
As the high school volleyball season heats up, several teams across New Mexico are making strong cases for top rankings. #nmpreps
No. 1 Las Cruces Bulldawgs (15-0 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: The Bulldawgs remain unbeaten heading into the final weeks of the season. Since our last ranking, they've gone 4-0, defeating Albuquerque (3-0), Rio Rancho (3-0), Mayfield (3-0), and Gadsden (3-0). They’ve only dropped three sets all season.
No. 2 Cleveland Storm (13-2 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: Cleveland has extended its winning streak to 11 games, going 3-0 since our last ranking. Their only loss since September 7th was to Las Cruces, and they've dropped just one set during this streak.
No. 3 La Cueva Bears (12-3 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: The Bears have gone 5-1 since the last ranking, with their only loss coming to Mesa, Arizona (2-0) on October 5th. They went 4-1 in an out-of-town tournament and are now 2-0 in district play after defeating Sandia (3-0) and Eldorado (3-0).
No. 4 Los Lunas Tigers (8-5 overall, 1-0 district)
The Scoop: Los Lunas is a team with a strong resume but a recent stumble against Cibola (3-2) raised eyebrows. Still, their losses are only to top-tier teams: La Cueva, Cleveland, and Las Cruces.
No. 5 St. Pius X Sartans (12-3 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: The Sartans have been on fire, going 5-0 since their last losses to Las Cruces and Los Lunas in September. Recent victories include Albuquerque Academy and 2-0 performances at the Goddard Invite, where they defeated Goddard and St. Michael's. They are also off to a 2-0 start in district play.
No. 6 Santa Fe Demons (13-1 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: Santa Fe is enjoying one of its best seasons yet. They are 4-0 since our last ranking, with victories over Robertson, Capital, Manzano, and Los Alamos, bringing their overall record to an impressive 13-1.
No. 7 Centennial Hawks (10-5 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: The Hawks have surged from unranked to ranked, going 4-1 since our last ranking. Their only losses have come to Cleveland (three times), Los Lunas, and El Paso Franklin (TX). Recent wins include Mayfield, Alamogordo, Volcano Vista, and Albuquerque.
No. 8 Albuquerque Bulldogs (9-7 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: The Bulldogs hit a rough patch, facing powers like Centennial, Las Cruces, and Cleveland, but have rebounded with wins over Rio Grande and West Mesa, going 2-2 since our last ranking.
No. 9 Roswell Coyotes (16-1 overall, 0-0 district)
The Scoop: The Coyotes demand respect with their 16-1 overall record. They enter district play on October 15th against Hobbs, whom they recently beat 3-2. Other notable wins include Artesia, Gadsden, Goddard, and Santa Teresa.
No. 10 Rio Rancho Rams (10-5 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: Since our last ranking on October 1st, Rio Rancho has gone 3-1, securing wins over Organ Mountain, Farmington, and Volcano Vista. Their only loss in that span was to top-ranked Las Cruces.
No. 11 St. Michael’s Horsemen (12-5 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: This 3A powerhouse is gunning for a three-peat in 3A volleyball, having played a tough non-district schedule. They’ve gone 5-1 since our last ranking, with victories over Clovis, Portales, Albuquerque Academy, Santa Fe Prep, and Robertson. Their only loss was to St. Pius X.
No. 12 Hobbs Eagles (9-7 overall, 0-0 district)
The Scoop: Hobbs is riding a four-game win streak, including wins over Goddard, Lovington, Artesia, and Lubbock, Texas. They are about to begin district play, aiming to strengthen their resume and compete for the district title.
No. 13 Cibola Cougars (10-5 overall, 1-1 district)
The Scoop: Cibola has gone 3-1 recently, with victories over Eldorado, Piedra Vista, and an impressive win over Los Lunas. Their lone loss was to second-ranked Cleveland (3-0). Can they conjure some late-season magic again?
No. 14 Volcano Vista Hawks (8-7 overall, 1-1 district)
The Scoop: Despite going 1-3 since our last ranking, Volcano Vista's losses came against top-ranked teams Las Cruces, Centennial, and Rio Rancho. They remain a strong contender despite the challenges.
No. 15 Albuquerque Academy Chargers (10-6 overall, 2-0 district)
The Scoop: The Chargers endured a five-game losing streak to end September and start October but have bounced back with three straight wins over Valley, Artesia, and Hope Christian. Their losses were to highly-ranked teams, but they remain in the hunt for the 4A title.
