2021 NMPreps New Mexico Mr. Football Finalist
Since 2006 with our first winner Mr. Landry Jones, NMPreps and Rivals has been home to one of the top awards in New Mexico. We continue that trend this season as we look at the 2021 candidates for the New Mexico Mr. Football award.
QB Aden Chavez, Cibola HS (6'5''/2023): The number one ranked quarterback in New Mexico leads the way in the state for passing yards. Chavez has 2,505-yards and 26-passing touchdowns through the regular season. The Cougars are 5-5 overall this season and the 7-seed in the playoffs.
QB Aidan Armenta, La Cueva HS (6'2''/2023): The junior quarterback ranks second in the state for passing yards with 2,357 yards this season. Armenta also has 22-passing touchdowns. He also has 5-rushing touchdowns for the Bears this season. La Cueva is 9-1 on the season and the3-seed in the 6A playoffs.
RB Alexavier Carreon, Jal HS (6'1''/2023): The Carreon name is known in New Mexico and Alexavier becomes the first Jal player named to the finalist of the New Mexico Mr. Football award. The Panthers are 6-0 on the season with Carreon rushing for 1,154 yards on 110 carries. He also has 17 touchdowns which is an average of nearly 3 touchdowns per game. He also had a 395-yard rushing night on August 20th, which ranks 9th on the all-time single game rushing yards list.
RB Cayden Walton, Raton HS (5'9''/2023): Walton leads the way in the state for rushing yards with 1,556-yards and 20-touchdowns. He also has 111-yards receiving (1 TD), with nearly 2,000 all purpose yards. The Raton Tigers are the 1-seed and 10-0 on the season.
QB/K Evan Wysong, Cleveland HS (5'9''/2023): Wysong now joins his brother has a finalist for the New Mexico Mr. Football award; his brother was the 2020 award winner. Wysong, has had an impressive season this year with 1,405 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns and 651-rushing yards and 10-rushing yards. Add in 1 receiving touchdown and one of the best kickers in the state going 24 of 25 on PATs
ATH Isaac Hinson, Lovington HS (6'0''/2022): The Lovington Wildcat has some impressive numbers for the top ranked 4A football team this season. Hinson has nearly 1200 all purpose yards that includes receiving, rushing, and passing the football. He also accounts for 19-touchdowns (15 receiving, 3 rushing, 1 passing) this season. He is the state leader in receiving TDs this season. Hinson also has 5 recorded pancake blocks, 84-total tackles, and 4 interceptions.
LB Jaden Fischer, Eldorado HS (6'2''/2022): The Eagles linebacker has quietly had one of the top years. Fischer has 53-total tackles and a 6A leading sack leader with 13. The Eagles are 7-3 season the season and the 9-seed in the 6A state playoffs.
WR Kaden Valdez, Volcano Vista HS (5'11''/2022): The senior receiver for the Hawks has been one of the top overall this season. He has over 1,026-yards and 10-receiving touchdowns. He's also recorded an INT this season for the Hawks. Valdez had two games with over 250-yards.
RB Marco Ybarra, St. Pius X (5'9''/2022): The top ranked running back in 4A football this season, Ybarra has led the way for the Sartans with over 1,400-yards rushing this season. He also has 22-rushing touchdowns and 22-total tackles for the 8-2 Sartans. St. Pius X is the 3-seed in the 4A bracket.
RB Zach Vigil, Rio Rancho HS (5'10''/2022): The number one ranked running back in New Mexico earned an offer from the University of New Mexico this week. Now he is a finalist for the top award in New Mexico high school football. In 8-game Vigil has 1372 rushing yards, 21 rushing touchdowns along with 3 receiving touchdowns and 1 passing touchdown. The Rams are 7-1 and the 2-seed in the 6A playoffs.
