2023 Season Recap: A Resilient and Successful 2023 Campaign
The Valley Vikings showcased resilience and growth throughout their 2023 season, overcoming an early stumble to finish with a strong 8-4 record. After a tough opening loss to 4A Bernalillo, 12-6, the Vikings quickly found their stride, securing three consecutive wins against 6A Cibola (15-3), 4A St. Pius X (35-0), and 5A Belen (33-7). However, they faced setbacks with losses to 6A Los Lunas (61-7) and 4A Portales (45-7), wrapping up non-district play with a 4-3 record.
Entering district play, the Vikings turned up the intensity, starting with a 62-42 win over Manzano and continuing with dominant victories against Del Norte (53-0) and Los Alamos (26-23) to clinch the district championship. In the playoffs, #6 Valley defeated #11 Manzano 50-0 in the first round but fell short in the quarterfinals against #3 Piedra Vista, 30-6. Despite the season's ups and downs, it was a successful campaign that marked the Vikings as a team on the rise.
