NO. 2 ROSWELL COYOTES
TEAM SNAPSHOT
Predicting the champion of the southeastern district (4-5A) is on the same level as predicting a state champion. Roswell, Goddard (No. 4), and if you are following along Artesia (No. 1) will all be in the crunch of things and like the 2018 season, all teams tied with a 2-1 record, we could see the same outcome in 2019. The bad news for the reigning 5A state champions: They lose Cade Manzanares, who became the first defensive player to win the Rivals New Mexico Mr. Football winner in 2018. They also will have to replace quarterback Ethan Valenzulea. The good news: Roswell returns super quick running back Jasia Reese (2020) and Roderick Sedillo (2020) both of which could carry the load of carries. Dominic Nava (2020/FS), Josh Castillo (2020/OG) and Isaac Hurst (2020/DE) also return to bolster plenty of experience moving forward.
REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
8-wins. We are discussing regular season when we look at possible wins. I'll be honest here and say that I'm underselling how I feel about the Coyotes chances at repeating. I like the mixture of players returning, yes they will lose a lot in who graduated in May, but I think this sleeping giant is now awake. The ceiling: running it back as state champs. The floor: semifinals.
