Having a son whose senior season ends by injury is a tough thing to watch and despite mine and my spouse's best efforts, parental words doesn't ease that athlete's pain. But what a coach did today at the state tourney will no doubt give him a sense of connection to the Pit/State Tourney from now on.

With under 7 seconds left and Espanola leading 44-39, Centennial Coach Steve Heredia subbed in senior SG Bryce Rewalt whose season ended on February 6th against Los Lunas with a torn ACL. He is pending ACL surgery and getting to finish his high school career on the Pit floor meant the world to him. Despite the enormity of Coach's team losing and being eliminated from the state tourney, this leader of young men had the thoughtfulness to carry out this simple gesture that was most likely unnoticed by the 7-8000 in attendance. But it meant a lot to a certain 17 year old and his parents and family.

Thank you Coach Heredia, and thank you to all you other coaches that do these things for our sons/daughters every season.
