Cleveland/La Cueva Scrimmage
By: Kyle Henderson of NMPreps.com
Recap: Cleveland looked massive. Honestly, they looked like a JC team or small college team down on the sidelines. The Storm was on offensive first and scored on their second or third play from scrimmage when Quarterback Gabe Ortega faked an option pitch and ran the football in from 25-yards out. Cleveland would score a few plays later when Ortega threw a touchdown pass to Ryan Anderson. La Cueva had little to zero yards on their first 8 plays of offense. I noticed a good amount of Cleveland guys going both ways including Henry Hattis who played both offensive tackle and defensive tackle, Marcus Williams who played receiver and safety, Gabe Ortega who played quarterback and safety, and another guy I am forgetting. The only downside I would have against Cleveland is they had some senseless penalties, a few false start, etc. Their offensive line played outstanding and there was times Ortega had more than 10 seconds to look down field and make a play. The positives for La Cueva were the play of running back Josh Woison who played like a man and proved one play that he didn't even need a helmet (kid is super tough). I was also impressed with Derek Loidolt at middle linebacker and Chris Campbell at quarterback. La Cueva did have a few good defensive series and forced a sack on Ortega and then forced an interception.
Players That Impressed
Gabe Ortega - Cleveland - QB
Henry Hattis - Cleveland - OL
Santos Taylor - Cleveland - OL
Nate Garcia - Cleveland - OL
Rope Henry - Cleveland - LB
Landry Hays - Cleveland - RB
Adam Cook - Cleveland - TE
Ryan Anderson - Cleveland - WR
Marcus Williams - Cleveland - WR
Derek Loidolt - La Cueva - MLB
Josh Woison - La Cueva - RB
Chris Campbell - La Cueva - QB
