Recap: Cleveland 59, Grants 56

RIO RANCHO, NM - Marcus Williams led the No. 9 Cleveland Storm (6-3) to a three point win over the No. 2 Grants Pirates on Monday night, 59-56. Williams faced off with another Top-10 player in Richie Lucero but it was Williams' 18-points that stood on out on the evening.

The contest started with the Pirates jumping out to an early lead (20-16) to end the first quarter. It was a combination of steals off of the press and Cleveland turnovers early in the contest.

Lucero finished with 13 points on the game. The rest of the Pirate trio followed suit with 15 points by junior shooting guard Matt Vail and 12 by Michael Chambers. The Pirates went into the half with a 31-28 lead but a controversial three point shot waved off a three that could have had the Pirates up 6 at the half.

Cleveland stormed their way to a 15-4 third quarter to take a lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Pirates only with 1-field goal in the third and Cleveland using a press of their own to create easy buckets on the other end.

The Pirates chipped away at the lead down 54-46 at the four minute mark using a 7-0 run from the four minute mark to a timeout at 1:09. Cleveland big man Adam Cook had 8 points in the second half and a handful of rebounds to keep the Storm out in front.

After four Cleveland free throws they found themselves at the line with :9 seconds remaining, up 58-56 but both fell short.

Pirates guard penetrated to the rim but missed a wide open lay up that would have tied the game.
