Monday
Penasco (2-1) at Pecos (2-0): Gone is plenty of the talent that has been moving this program forward and helping them reach several late playoff runs. After dropping their opening to Pojoaque they've recovered winning the last two over Taos and Cimarron. Guided by what could become a dynasty of youth Savannah Ortiz (2022) leads Pecos in scoring with 14.5 ppg. Next is 8th grader Natalia Stout (11.5 ppg) and sophomore Mestidawn Roybal (10 ppg).
Shiprock (1-0) at Piedra Vista (1-2): Shiprock hasn't been the same since they let go of Larenson Henderson (and Farmington has excelled since hiring him immediately after Shiprocks decision). Well, they did start this season with a nice 78-32 win over Newcomb on Friday of last week. Piedra Vista a top-5 preseason pick has come out slow out the gate going 1-2 to start the season. After winning the opener they dropped a pair of games to La Cueva and Eldorado; Lanae Billy (2022) with a much bigger role this season is leading the way with 18 ppg and 8 rebounds.
Valley (0-0) at Volcano Vista (2-0): Valley played well last season winning 17-games and earning a bid to state. They return their top two scorers in Gillian Roybal (2021) and Shaela Carrillo (2022). Volcano Vista already off to a hot 2-0 start with wins over Cibola (63-45), and Cleveland (65-32). The Hawks have plenty of depth but Jaelyn Bates (2022), Natalia Chavez (2022), and Giannah Aragon (2021) have come out with big games; Bates (23 ppg), Chavez (15), and Aragon (12).
Espanola Valley (2-0) at Cleveland (1-1): Espanola Valley had some key players returning this season and they'll let it fly from behind the arch. They have a 50-47 win over Robertson and a 60-36 win over Capital on their belt. Cleveland lost to one of the top teams in the state, 65-32, but earned a quality win over Hope Christian 64-41 last week.
