Deepest Teams In The 2016 State Tournament
Joshua J Grine

Today, we take a look at the teams with the most depth from trios to teams even deeper.

Four Captains of the Pirates Ship
Richie Lucero (Sr), Bradley Hatten (Sr), Michael Chambers (Sr) & Matt Vail (Sr)

What's not to like about the Pirates and that line-up with four players in double figures nightly. This is considered one of the deeper teams and have a next level talent in Richie Lucero a 6-foot-5 wing that can knock down the jay or off the dribble he penetrates well.

Valley Trio
Anthony Chavez (So), Segun Oyeku (So) & Teton Saltes (Sr)

Chavez and Oyeku are easily the top two sophomores in the state of New Mexico. Chavez in the argument for the best point guard in the state and one of the ten best players in the state. University of New Mexico football commit Teton Saltes looking to follow his brothers footsteps winning a title in their senior season. Saltes, hands down one of the more physical bigs and top 3 in the state for posts.

Three Knights for Onate
Johnny McCants (Sr), Hunter Thomas (Jr) & Antonio Zomora (Jr)

These three have the Knights ranked number one in 6A basketball. McCants, we all know is the best player in the state but Thomas and Zomora bring excellent counterparts. Hunter the spot up shooter, Zomora distributes along with doing a little of everything.

Goddard Four Pack
Noah Waide (Sr), LeAnthoney Harrison (Jr), Cael Villareal (Sr) & Dalin Stanford (So)

This team is a scary good squad for another team you will see on this list. Waide the shooter but floor general, Harrison the shooter, Villarael the utility man and Stanford the young post man with the hook shot.

Los Lunas Quad
Kayden Walker (JR), Mario Trujillo (Jr), Zanen Zeller (Fr) & Hunter Wisneski (Jr)

Crazy part about the Tigers is these four all come back next season. If you haven't considered a title contender (this year too but just sayin') then take them. You could throw in hype man Thean Nelson a solid post that hits from the corner. Walker is a smart playmaking guard, Wisneki the speedster with different gears, Zeller the youngin' with the IQ and Trujillo the man carrying the talent.

Cleveland Gridiron Gang
Marcus Williams (Sr), Jayden Phillips (So), Marcus Hill (Jr), Henry Hattis (Sr) & Adam Cook (Jr)

Deeep, maybe the deepest of them all with athletes - two playing D1 football (one off the bench in Ortega) - but loaded. Marcus Williams could be a next level basketball player as well. Marcus Hill maybe the best offensive threat outside of Williams. Hattis, well dude could dominate in the paint, get out of the way but if you are brave to take a charge tell the trainer to get ice.

Cibola Barbershop Crew
Desmond Carpenter (Jr), Carlos Barela (Sr), Cameron Dixon (Jr) & Isaac Maldonado (Sr)

All four of these young men make up the four for Cibola. Oh yeah they all must have the same barber as they all rock the same hair cut. Carpenter, is the playmaker but Barela can get to the bucket. Dixon knocks down from the trey and Maldonado is the big with range.
