District Views: District 1-5A Ranking The Running Cores
Grine of NMPreps.com

Today, we continue to release features getting you ready for the 2016 football season. We have released 20 teams in our NMPreps.com Top 50 Summer Rankings and each team from this District has been released so we take a look at the running backs in the District.

Ranking the Running Game

1. Farmington Scorpions: The preseason favorite has one of the more impressive returning running back cores along with a QB that will take the football on the ground. Alex Fowler, Jr, had 908-yards on the season with a 9.2 yards per carry average. Donvan Gonzalez, Sr, also returns with 337-yards but a 12.0 yards per carry average is eye popping.

2. Bloomfield Bobcats:
The Bobcats return to this district and the running core has graduated but they return some new names to the running game. 5-foot-9, Junior, Diego O'Neill returns and could get the call this season. He posted 234-yards on 30-carries last season. Behind him are Kyle Burkholder who had 115-yards on 9.6 yards per carry along with Rudy Vigil who had 104 yards on 10.4 yards per carry.

3. Aztec Tigers: The Tigers right now are the number two district champion contender behind Farmington with a young roster returning. Looking at their running game you know junior QB can run the ball as the returning stat leader at 425-yards along with 11 rushing touchdowns. Zane Bradshaw, Sr, will be the name we know as his touches should improve after posting 151-yards last season only 32-carries.

4. Miyamura Patriots: The Patriots are the make-or-break type of team this season. The Patriots could be the team that makes some noise however under the radar. The also had a 1,000 yard rusher, who has since graduated, as they give plenty of love to the running game. They graduated plenty but at this time it's unknown who gets the call for the number one RB but its likely they will have the chance to get their touches. Returning QB Matt Chavez had 409-yards on the ground.

5. Kirtland Central Broncos: The district has a wealth of talented running quarterbacks as we have mentioned. Again, we see that in Kirtland Central who returns Brian Dowdy as QB who ran for 180-yards last season with 4-touchdowns. Outside of Dowdy the Broncos have plenty of adjustments to make moving up to 5A. They graduate plenty and return Zach Vanduren who played in 7-games with 3 carries for 21-yards as the most experience with 1-touchdown.

6. Gallup Bengals: The Bengals relied heavy on graduate QB Colton Lowely to pass and run the ball. They only return one RB in Isaiah Mike-Dubbs who played one game with 8-carries for 58-yards.
