Early New Mexico HS Basketball Team Rankings
NMPreps early New Mexico high school basketball team rankings for the 2021/2022 season. The preseason rankings will still be on-going after we discuss and debate these early-first version look at the team rankings. #nmpreps
4A BASKETBALL
Top 10
1. Gallup: The Bengals have been knocking on the door and return a duo in Joaquin Ortega (22), and Kohanon Atazhoon (22).
2. Espanola Valley: Garrett May (22) is one of the better scoring guards in the class; Ollie Fell (22) brings a nice presence in the paint.
3. Del Norte: The defending champs lose Mr. Basketball Shane Douma-Sanchez (‘23) for the season but next-level player Judah Casaus (‘23) will carry the load.
4. Artesia: Michael Mondragon has been a consistent power at Artesia and returns guard Nick Sanchez (23) who has potential to be all-state.
5. Highland: Head coach Justin Woody keeps building Highland basketball and the big question will be 6'7 Jose Murillo ('22), who is a next-level post, coming back.
6. Taos: The Tigers feature 6'2 wing Anthony Padilla ('22) and 6'6 Daemon Ely ('23) creating one of the best Taos teams we've seen.
7. Goddard: Goddard returns a nice trip in Damian Argon ('22), James Torrez ('22), and 6-2 forward Noah Reese ('22) who averaged 20 points and 8 rebounds.
8. Lovington: This could be one of more improved team I seen this summer with plenty of quick guards including Isaac Hinson ('22), Adam Aguilera ('23), and Tayten Hilliard ('22).
9. Bernalillo: The Spartans lost some key players but return guard Tristen Ludi-Herrera ('22) to make another run this season.
10. Hope Christian: We can all agree that last season was a strange year but I think we all know that the Huskies will return after going under .500 and missing the state tournament for the first time.
