End of an Era was today's headline of the sports front page of the Hobbs New Sun and aptly so. And I missed it for the first time this century. I missed the final game of the Clovis/Hobbs rivalry which was almost like no other in this state as far as passion and crowd sizes. You see, Hobbs and Clovis have seemingly always been in the same district but next year that is unbelievably over. Clovis goes to Albuquerque and Hobbs goes to Las Cruces splitting up the two teams closest to Texas on the eastern border. Lubbock is the primary city that both NM cities go to for a ton of things like college sports, shopping, medical and entertainment and I cannot count the number of times we have encountered Clovis folks in Lubbock. Always pleasant encounters UNlike my encounters with folks on this site like eelindy and that guy that always says "Hawbs". LMBO Whatever happened to those guys? Let's hope that sanity will reoccur when the next district alignment comes down and Hobbs and Clovis will again fight it out in district. One last district poke at the Wildcats..."Not Since 1979"... as the banners in Tasker Arena always say when the Eagles play Clovis. For anybody that does not know...that was the last time Clovis won the state championship. But as Coach Smith said today the rivalry will continue unbroken. That's the best headline.
