6A Basketball - Clay Patterson, Rio Rancho HS
Patterson went for 21 points including a game winning three pointer as the 11-seed Rio Rancho Rams upset the 6-seed Albuquerque High Bulldogs. Patterson, knocked down 5 3-pointers in the contest as well.
5A Basketball - Richie Lucero, Grants HS
Lucero, has been playing extremely well lately and continued to hot streak with a 25 point and 13 rebound performance in the opening round. Grants now moves on to the Elite Eight for the third consecutive season to face rival Gallup.
4A Basketball - Brandon Charley, Bloomfield HS
Charley, has been flying somewhat under the radar this season but he led the Bobcats to an opening round win with 22 points. The Bobcats were a pick by some to be upset but Charley made sure they kept on rolling.
3A Basketball - John Paul Garcia, Tucucmari HS
It's difficult to argue a stat line that reads - 27 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Garcia, could find himself on the short list of candidates for the NMPreps.com Mr Basketball award at the end of the season.
2A Basketball - Wyatt Williams, Melrose HS
A new name that hits the list of award winners as Williams poured in a game high of 19 points to advance the top seed Buffaloes into the Elite Eight.
1A Basketball - Ryan Bone, Grady HS
Bone another small school player getting love for the first time this season after he put in 19 points in the opening round win. Bone, helps carry Grady into the Elite Eight.
Team of the Week - Bernalillo High School
Could you really argue the Spartans taking home the award? The Spartans the cinderella wearing title for the 2016 State Tournament upset the 4-seed Farmington Scorpions in the opening round of the 5A bracket.
