Grine's Saturday Morning Coffee: Reviewing Last Night

Well, I got home at 1:30am and now here we are at 4am to take a look at what took place across the state. This feature will update throughout the day and into Sunday as more stats and information comes through. Don't be shy to send a text with some stats, if you don't want to post them. BTW, I would update with the type of coffee I am drinking but I've since stopped drinking coffee, so a tall glass of ice water. Also, no this is not your typical recap. We like to do it unconventional around here and allow you the chance to give your thoughts on the night as well.

Here we go....

Recap: Intriguing Scores

We always ask the question of 'most intriguing score'. Well, here are some of the reasons that we picked the games that we did in our poll (check out Anthony Johnson's thread)

Rio Rancho and Los Lunas with shutouts. I didn't see that happening in either game. Yes, Los Lunas is darn good and a heavy favorite but not 50-0. The Rams of Rio Rancho.....well they were completely dominate against the La Cueva Bears. I guess we have our 1 and 2 in the City of Vision (Rio Rancho) and third contender well that could be a huge gap after. This is after two weeks of ‘what we know’.

Robertson with a monster rebound win over Cobre, 46-0. Maybe, the cross-state travel for the Cobre Indians was a little too much. Or Maybe the Cardinals are just that good in 3A.

Gadsden, we had to put Gadsden, because when was the last time they every mercy ruled a team? I would lean on never but you can do the fact checking. Remember I quit coffee.

Goddard over Carlsbad. Not because we didn't think they would win but maybe we expected it to be a closer game. Right now just because it's still early but Goddard-Los Lunas final is getting to my way too early prediction. Yes, Mayfield, Farmington, and Artesia we know you are there too.

Los Alamos Hilltoppers are 2-0 with a win over Taos, 35-24. Yes, you read that correctly. Kudos to that program for what looks to be a promising season. Playoffs?...que the Jim Mora playoffs meme.

Lovington with a big win over Roswell. Roswell is rebuild and having a down year we know but still a nice win for the Wildcats. Looking at Santa Teresa's win over Fabens (TX) and maybe the Wildcats close win over them isn't looking too bad now.

Organ Mountain. Gosh, I just think it is a weird name to say. Off topic. The Knights with a big win over Deming and by Tuesday morning we could see a ranked Knights team.

Artesia, well I sort of had that feeling. They lose to Carlsbad, Hobbs wins a big game, but then Artesia beats Hobbs. Do we know end up seeing Hobbs beat Carlsbad and we just have a you beat them, we beat you, you beat them. Nice win though!

Cibola Cougars get the win over Las Cruces. We know have a group (Cibola, Volcano Vista, Las Cruces, La Cueva), we need a name for them, as the group on the next tier down from those Rio schools. Oh yeah Hobbs, Eldorado, and Centennial maybe in that tier too.

I did see Farmington live last night. First time to Hutchinson Stadium. Thing is awesome. The Scops are good. Defensive line was tough. Kayden Gonzalez (2022) is a heck of a punt returner. Trel Griego (2024) remember that name at QB next season. Jakeem Reed (RB/2023) and Patrick Shay (WR/2022). Furbee (QB) played solid especially when they have open space.

Weekly Recap Nominations

Bringing back our full weekly what did we learn. I need stats and updates for our All-New Mexico team, Honor Roll Team, and also individual awards.
