5A BASKETBALL
1st Unit Scoop: We couldn't start the list for 5A basketball without the dynamic duo of William Benjamin and Isaiah Carr of top-ranked Las Cruces High School. Benjamin, a 6-foot-2 guard, is averaging 26.1 points per game along with 6 rebounds and 7 assists. 6-foot-11 and Grand Canyon University commit Isaiah Carr has averages of 18.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Hobbs guard Jalen Goar has the Eagles ranked third and leading the way with 19.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per contest. Ja'Kwon Hill (2022/Volcano Vista) and freshman stud Jalin Holland (2025/Los Lunas) both lead their team into the post-season after being named District Player of the Year for their respected districts (no stats available). Junior star Exodus Ayers leads a talented 2023 class for the La Cueva Bears (2-seed) with 16.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per contest.
