1. New Head Football Coaches In 2015
Gary Bradley - New Coach at Carlsbad
Feature Story: Carlsbad has hired their new head football coach to replace Ron Arrington. The hire comes from the Northwest corner of the State of New Mexico hiring Gary Bradley. Bradley the son of Jim Bradley Sr. (legendary former Mayfield Coach) has been the Head Coach at Farmington since the 2008 season.
Bradley took over during the 2008 season and posted a career record of 54-31 over the last 7 seasons including one 4A state championship during the 2013 season.
"In coaching, you develop strong relationships as part of the business. When my wife and I moved to Farmington from Las Cruces in 2008 it was very tough leaving family and now with us leaving Farmington to Carlsbad it's tough again to leave life long friends we've made.
We did not come to Farmington to use it as a stepping stone, we came here to live. Our family is 100% in this next phase and we're diving right into this new challenge," Said Bradley.
Bradley at Farmington
2014 7-6
2013 12-1 *4A State Champs
2012 7-5
2011 10-3
2010 9-3
2009 7-5
2008 2-8
Challenges ahead in Carlsbad?
The Carlsbad Cavemen went 2-8 during the 2014 season and just 6-5 during the 2013 season. The Cavemen have not been to a state football title game since 2000 (under Kirk Potter) and have not won a state football championship since 1962 under Ralph Bowyer.
"I've always had my eye on Carlsbad. It's a one-horse town, a small town and I've always liked Carlsbad form the Lake, River, and I love the fact that on Friday Night they close it down for Football. It's a sports town with a lot of athletes, great facilities, and great community support,"
The Cavemen return Jonah Leyva who saw playing time at quarterback as just a sophomore, but graduate big time names like Travis Kessler, Kaleb Stevens, Trevin Ramirez, and Elijah McCoy.
It will also be interesting to see if Bradley moves to Cavemen from a spread set to a option style offense which he ran as both the offensive coordinator while at Mayfield and as the Head Coach at Farmington.
The last time Carlsbad won the District was in 2010 going 2-0.
Mark it down
As mentioned Gary is the son of Jim Bradley Sr. and the brother to current Head Mayfield Football Coach Michael Bradley. "I talked to my brother Michael and he's excited for me. We play each other in week 3 along with a loaded schedule."
Additional New Coaches In 2015
Ken Stevens - New Coach at Eunice
The skinny: Ken Stevens has served as a long time assistant at Carlsbad. He takes over at Eunice replacing Caleb Aldrige who went 7-5 last year losing to Clayton in the 3A semifinals.
Collin Justiss - New Coach at Valencia
The skinny: Justiss went 23-2 over the last two-years as Clayton’s head coach, taking the Yellowjackets to back to back state championships. Justiss takes over for Kevin Jolley who finished 6-5 last year losing to Piedra Vista 44-21 in the first round of the 5A playoffs.
Jeff Dalton - New Coach at Farmington

John Cabos - New Coach at Bernalillo
The Skinny: Cabos takes over for Trent Spencer. Bernalillo is just 5-15 over the last two-years.
Kevin Graham - New Coach at Dexter

Dustin Tippit - New Coach at Clayton
The Skinny: Tippit has been an assistant under Justiss for two-seasons and will take over a program that has been straight rolling over the last two-years. The Yellowjackets are 23-2 over the past two seasons reaching the 3A state title game in 2014 and in 2013.

2. NMPreps.com Recruiting War Room Updates
Two prospects we have new updates on from this past weekend. 6-foot-2, 190 pound Quarterback Gabe Ortega at Cleveland was offered by the New Mexico Lobos over the weekend. His testing numbers read: 4.51 40-time and recorded a 33 inch vertical jump. Last year as a junior Ortega threw for 1,639-yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for 729-yards and 7 touchdowns with 3 100-yard games. Ortega has the athleticism to play all over the field, but we are told the Lobos are recruiting him as a quarterback.
Isaiah Martinez is a 6-foot-2, 182 pound safety that has been offered by Adams State and Western Colorado. Martinez missed last year with an injury, but contributed on varsity as a sophomore where he was named All-Metro.

Football 7-on Tournament Champs: Cleveland beat St. Pius X
Basketball Tournament Champs: Hope beat Rio Rancho
4. All-Star baseball games
The 6A/5A All-Star three game series took place in Las Cruces over the weekend. Game three of the series ended in dramatic fashion: With the North up 10-7 in the bottom of the 7th, Onate’s Mike Salcedo hit a walk off grand slam to end it. South won game one 13-11, North won game two 9-2, and the South won game three 11-10.
The 3A/2A All-Star game also took place over the weekend in Bayard, New Mexico at Cobre High School. The South won game one 11-6, North won 11-7 off a walk off grand slam, we are still looking for the game three score.
5. NBA Finals - Golden State Leads 3-2
My goodness did Steph Curry hit some money shots in the 4th quarter. Curry finished the game 13-23 from the field and 7-13 from beyond the arch finishing with 37 points to lead Gold State past Cleveland 104-91. Golden State takes a 3-2 series lead over Cleveland, Game 6 is Tuesday tonight. Lebron James led the way for Cleveland finishing with 40 points (15-34), 14 records, 11 assists, in 44 minutes.
6. Youtube Videos of the Week
Barehanded baseball line drive catch ( ORIGINAL )
Some dude made a killer barehanded grab. Could you catch this?
This catch by John Coffey is actually more impressive than the baseball grab. Haha
This is a video of a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The take off is nearly vertical. Crazy!!!

Review: Fun for all ages. Good mix of ok dialogue with some awesome dinosaur scenes. Best Jurassic movie since the first one way back when.

True story: Took our two-year daughter and 6-year old son (I was very nervous about the two-year old throwing her milk down 5-rows of seats, crying, etc.) but she did fantastic to my surprise. Also she was crying at the end of the movie because it ended.
I also watched San Andreas recently as well. It’s rare that I see two movies in theaters, but I enjoyed the Rock’s performance. It was mindless fun. Haha.
9. Music
Recently bought Zac Brown’s latest album: Jekyll & Hyde. Very good album. Just read that Zach Brown is coming to Albuquerque on 10/7/2015. Also I bought: Jim Croce’s “the hits”, the best of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and an Elvis Live concert. Also, was turned on to Amos Lee who I have been listening to.
10. 60/70’s party/Pool Party
I am pretty conservative person. However, when my wife asks me to do things like attend her social club’s 70’s party I’ll take the path of least resistance. Anyways, we attend a 60’s/70’s party (See pic) and it was in great fun, pretty funky, and our group won best dressed. Sunday concluded with a pool party for my son’s end of the year baseball awards banquet. This was our first year doing a team sport, and I’ve really enjoyed watching my son being coached. It’s an important part of sports, life, and the camaraderie the kids on the team build has been pleasing. As a father, at least for me sometimes its difficult to try new things with a family, but usually those experience are the ones that we remember.
