For those that don't know, Ron Black was the long-time men's basketball coach at NMJC in Hobbs. I ran across this post of his on Facebook today. Really interesting how things come together.
"I have watched the Hobbs Lady Eagles play three time in the last week. They are now 27-1 and ranked #1 in the state. Their only loss was to Carlsbad and Carlsbad has only lost three games all year, all to Hobbs. Hobbs is led by Junior Amaya Lewis. In 1991-92 the two starting guards for New Mexico Junior College were Pete Lewis of Hobbs and Greg Brown of Albuquerque High. They led NMJC to the championship of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. Pete went on to an outstanding career at the University of Oklahoma while Greg was the WAC Player of the Year and won the Naismith Award as the nation's best senior under 6' while playing at the University of New Mexico.
Today, their two daughters, Amaya Lewis of Hobbs and Amaya Brown of Albuquerque Cibola are probably the two best girl players in the state. Amaya Brown is injured this year but I would love to see Hobbs and Cibola in the state championship game next year."
