Is This the Final Season for Women’s Head Coach Michael Bradbury?
J Grine -- NMPreps Lobo
Michael Bradbury’s tenure as the head coach of the UNM women’s basketball team has been filled with highs and lows, leaving fans wondering: has he reached his ceiling? While Bradbury has brought some stability to the program, questions linger about whether his teams have underachieved or simply met expectations.
The Lobos have had seasons of promise derailed by inconsistent three-point shooting, struggles with offensive execution, and poor in-game adjustments. These issues have cast doubt on whether Bradbury is the right person to elevate the program to the next level.
On one hand, he has stayed out of controversy, avoided major scandals, and maintained a respectable, if not spectacular, program. For some, that stability might be enough for a program like UNM. On the other hand, the lack of player development and failure to consistently contend at the highest levels of the Mountain West have led others to call for new leadership.
One bright spot has been his recruiting—Bradbury has done a solid job bringing in local talent. However, the lack of growth and progression among players under his coaching has left many questioning the overall direction of the program.
So, is it time for a change? Should UNM embrace new leadership in hopes of taking the next step, or is Bradbury’s steadiness and mediocrity acceptable for the women’s program? What are your thoughts?
