NMPreps.com New Mexico Mr. Football Award
Today, we announce the 10 finalist for the NMPreps.com New Mexico Football Award. This award is for the top overall player in New Mexico for the 2016 season.
Finalist
Arjay Ortiz, Jr, QB, Robertson High School
Stats: 1,140-passing yards with 18 touchdowns. 610-rushing yards with 12 touchdowns. 52-total tackles on defense.
Team: Robertson is 12-0 and playing in the 4A State Championship.
Drew Ortiz, Sr., QB, St. Pius X High School
Stats: 2,700-passing yards with 35 touchdowns. 1,256-rushing yards with 20 touchdowns. Total is 55 touchdowns.
Team: St. Pius is 11-1 and playing in the 5A state championship.
Ezekiel Tapia, Sr., RB, Estancia High School
Stats: 2,745 rushing yards with 41 rushing touchdowns. 2-receiving touchdowns. 6-sacks on defense and 38-total tackles. 44 total touchdowns on the season.
Team: 10-2 Record, played in the 3A semi-final.
Fernando Acosta, Sr, DE, Clovis High School
Stats: 132-total tackles, 15 sacks, 1 caused fumble.
Team: Clovis went 8-4 and played in the 6A quarterfinal.
Forest McKee, MLB/FB, Onate High School
Stats: 167-total tackles, 4 sacks, 2 INTs. Also, 147-rushing yards with 2 touchdowns.
Team: 7-5 overall and played in the quarterfinals.
Josh Foley, Sr., RB, Rio Rancho High School
Stats: Rushing - 1,884-yards with 31 touchdowns. Receiving - 362-yards with 5 touchdowns. Defense - 99-yard interception returned for a touchdown. 38-total touchdowns on the season.
Team: Rio Rancho has a 12-0 record and playing for the 6A state championship.
Junior Pena, Sr., WR, Centennial High School
Stats: 1,162-yards and 10-touchdowns this season.
Team: The Hawks went 8-3 on the season and played in the quarterfinals.
Payton Ball, Jr., QB, Las Cruces High School
Stats: Passing - 2,299-yards with 23 touchdowns. Rushing - 996-yards with 18-touchdowns.
Team: Las Cruces has an 11-1 record and playing for the 6A state championship.
Price Bowen, Jr., QB/MLB, Capitan High School
Stats: 1,462-yards/18 passing touchdowns. 1,016-rushing yards with 13 touchdowns. 127-total tackles, 1 sack, 2-INTs.
Team: Capitan is 11-1 and in the 3A State Championship.

Stats: Leads the state with 188-total tackles, 2 sacks, 1INT, 3 caused fumbles, 225-receiving yards.
