Position Rankings: Top 10 Returning LB Cores

Today, we kick off our summer coverage leading up to the 2016 football season. We will take a look at different features before we start the coverage of each team.

1. ONATE KNIGHTS
Linebackers: Forest McKee (#1/2017), Matt Young (#2/2017)
Skinny: Forest McKee is the number one ranked linebacker in the 2017 classification for 6A football and rightfully so. McKee, is uncommitted at the time but has an offer from division one New Mexico State along with interest from Arizona and the University of New Mexico. McKee, accumulated for 100 tackles on the season. The Knights also featured the number two ranked linebacker from the 2017 classification for 6A in Matt Young, a 6-foot-3, 226 pound linebacker who totaled for 74 tackles in 2015.
2. RIO RANCHO RAMS
Linebackers: Elijah Goodwin (#3/2017), Vincent Palmeri (#4/2017), Trey Parnell (#6/2017)
Skinny: Could very well be ranked as the best LB core returning next season with three players ranked in the top-6 of best returning LB's. Elijah Goodwin and Vincent Palmeri are ranked 3rd and 4th respectfully after both big years, Palmeri had 88-tackles on the season.
3. LA CUEVA BEARS
Linebackers: Josh Woisin (#8 /2017), Derek Loidolt (#2/2018)
Skinny: The Bears were young last season and will look to a junior in 2016 as Derek Loidolt a top prospect returns after totaling 7-tackles as a sophomore. The Bears enter the season with two of the top linebackers in their respected graduating classification.
4. ST. MICHAEL'S HORESEMEN
Linebackers: Xavier Vigil (#1/2017), Joey Fernandez (#1/2018)
Skinny: Both linebackers are ranked number one in 4A football for their respected graduating class. The two create a tandem that could have the Horsemen back in the serious contention for a 4A state title team. Fernandez had 50-tackles last season as a sophomore while Hall in the top ranked prospect in class 4A's 2017 class.
5. HOBBS EAGLES
Linebackers: Caleb Bearid (#9/2017)
Skinny: This core last a lot of it's weapons graduating a pair of top LB's. However, Beaird returns after a 120-tackle, 65-solo season and alone creates depth as he sits directly behind Forest McKee (Onate) in a tough district for next season.

No. 6 - 10
Sandia Matadors top the list at number six behind Jacob Barnhill who is ranked 5th for returning linebackers in 2017. At the seventh and eight slots are Eldorado and Manzano. Eldorado features Darren Serna and Manzano featuring the top LB from the 2018 class in 6A with Cameron Herrera.
Rounding out the Top 10 is Carlsbad who has Jaykan Willis, ranked 3rd in 2018 (6A). Also, to most surprise from small school division football is Capitan who features Price Brown and Jacob Smith.

More To Watch
Other linebackers to keep an eye on this season is Jacob Garduno (West Mesa), ranked 9th in 6A-2017. A few of others from 4A and 5A is Santiago Mora (Moriarty), Jared Vigil (St. Pius X) and Jaren Scheider (Del Norte).

Young Guns
Atrisco Heritage Academy features a sophomore duo Jose Ramirez who totaled for 78-tackles last season as a freshman along Julian Torres.
