Preseason Rankings: No. 31 Clovis Wildcats

The 2015-2016 season has officially started and today we start our countdown of the top 50 programs in New Mexico Big School Division (6A-4A).

Today, we take a look at the Clovis Wildcats who are coming off a (5-22, 1-5) season, the first under head coach Scott Robinson.

Overview: It may come to some surprise that we have the Wildcats ranked lower than expected, many people talked to had them higher, near the 40's. What we like about the Wildcats is they have some stability, quality returning prospects and some good things are being said about their direction. The Wildcats are three years removed from playing for the state title and the talent dropped from some of the most talented years, however with towns like Clovis it will only take a year or two until they are a contender. A trio of seniors has are attention in Tyler Dobbs (6-2/G), Devin Roberts (6-5/F) and Roland Chavez (6-4/F). Dobbs is a guard that we are anticipating to have a solid season.

Last Season
Record: 5-22, 1-5
Home Record: 3-10
Away Record: 2-10
Post Season: Missed the playoffs
Points per game: 52.6 (1422)
Points against: 65.7 (1774)

Realistic Prediction: Okay, we are giving the Wildcats some early "love" on our overall rankings, still 18th in 6A but if they want to be successful in year two they will have to improve on the defensive end of the ball. Giving up about 66 points per contest will not win you many games. Right now we can predict an improvement around 11-12 wins, give or take a win or two. A bubble team for the playoffs and hopefully for a 16-14 seed.

District Champ: 9%
Playoff Team: 53%
Elite Eight: 12%
Final Four: 2%
Title Game: 1%

Returning Players: Clovis graduates only four players from last season and will have a talented senior loaded class that will be the difference this season. That senior leadership, high character players and talent will help propel this team into the playoffs. We mentioned Tucker Dobbs as one player to watch after a 11 points per game 3 rebounds a game season.
