The 2015-2016 season has officially started and today we start our countdown of the top 50 programs in New Mexico Big School Division (6A-4A).

It wasn't long ago that the Manzano Monarchs were playing for the 2011 State Championship. Fast forward to 2015-2016 and their third head coach since then.

Overview: Head coach Eric Orell will look to lead a Monarchs team after going 2-14 to end the season and hoping to look to the young players to fuel this team in 2015-2016. Two players the Monarchs will look to lead this season are Braxton Bouyer (2016) and Dominick Konstan (2016) who will be top scorer's returning. Orell was on staff during the Monarchs 2011 runner-up season and the 2006 title team, they should be much improved in year two under him.

Last Season
Record: 6-19, 5-5
Home Record: 1-9
Away Record: 2-6
Post Season: Missed the 6A playoffs
Points per game: 45.04 (1126)
Points against: 56.44 (1411)

Realistic Prediction: The Monarchs struggled on the offensive side last season and didn't have that consistent-take-over the game player that teams need in order to win close games. Realistically, this could be another "down" year of 6-10 wins but they will be improved on both sides and will be youthful in their development. The bright side is this once powerful district could be down and very winnable this season, in fact two of the Monarchs six wins came over district foe La Cueva.

District Champ: 23.6%: Higher than most teams ranked this high, but district just isn't what it used to be.
Playoff Team: 50%: Playing for a DC could be a reality.
Elite Eight: 5%
Final Four: 2%
Title Game: 1%

Returning Players: The Monarchs do graduate five players from last season but as mentioned much of what they did and will do in the future will be circled around a young up and coming group of players. Konstan and Bouyer are two players to watch for them and hear things about sophomore Andrew Erickson who had a productive showing as a freshman last season.

Marcus Gutierrez (2016)
Dominic Stephens (2016)
Dominick Konstan (2016)
Marcus Trujillo (2016)
Andy Doose (2016)
Braxton Bouyer (2016)
Jack Duggar (2017)
Colt Powell (2017)
Andrew Erickson (2018)
