Preseason Rankings: No. 48 Moriarty Pintos

The 2015-2016 season has officially started and today we start our countdown of the top 50 programs in New Mexico Big School Division (6A-4A).

The Moriarty Pintos under a new head coach in 2014-2015 finished the season at 4-22, 1-5 and missing the 2015 post season.

Overview: It was a new era in Moriarty and the team fell well under the .500 mark but the program should be much improved from their 4-win season. Head coach Mark Trujillo returns the entire roster from last season and the hopes are high for the Pinto green. The Pintos also have one of the top forwards in the state returning in Jake Flaming a 6'7" work horse in the paint with solid footwork and one of the better defensive big men.

Last Season
Record: 4-22, 1-5
Home Record: 1-8
Away Record: 2-10
Post Season: Missed the 5A playoffs
Points per game: 42.2 (1098)
Points against: 54.3 (1414)

Realistic Prediction: The Pintos will be improved and had an experienced roster last season outside of big man Flaming but the team, even though they will make strides, will still have some growing to do program wise. They only scored 42 points per contest and had a few games in the 20's or 30's offensively. Most of the top teams are uptempo, scoring in the 50's and 60's in 5A and the Pintos will need to improve offensively this season to put more "Ws" on the board. Realistically we don't see them as a playoff team and a 10-13 win season would be a huge success.

Final Four: .02% Yes

Returning Players: As we mentioned above the Pintos return the entire roster from last season and they are highlighted by one of the Top-25 players in the state of New Mexico. Jake Flaming (C/6'7"/2016) has been on the scene since making a splash his freshman season. One thing the Pintos will have is a big frontcourt headlined by some 6'4" forwards along with Flaming. One thing is for certain that senior night will take a long time with 10 seniors projected this season. Another player we have been told to keep an eye on within this program is sophomore Matt Soto a 6'3 wing.
