Scoop: The Robertson Cardinals have played for four of the last five state championships in 3A football and all without a ring. Will this be the year that they finally finish off their playoff run. The last state championship for the Cardinals comes in 2013 with a 34-7 win over Silver. St. Michael's returns to the state championship for the first time since winning it all in 2012 over Silver, 10-7. That is also the last time a 1-seed won the state championship in 3A. The Horsemen return to the state championship after beating top-seed Raton in the semifinals, 7-0 last weekend. The 3A State Championship will be a battle between long time District 2-3A rivals. The two did meet for the 2007 state championship with St. Michael's coming out ahead, 27-6.
