Sleeper Series: Kirtland Central Broncos
Record (2/15): 16-9 overall, 7-2 district
Who's left on their schedule: Gallup (2/16)
Players:
Bryson Dowdy (2018) was a player to watch last season, shoot his been one that we've heard about for the last three years. He is scoring 14.2 points per game this season and one of the better players that we don't hear enough about. He is one of those hustle, plenty of intangibles, type of player that does well in March.
Where:
(8-13 Seed). The Sleeper Series looks at the teams that are not in the conversation for the title. Should some be? Yes. However, I don't think we have a NMPrep member who would take the Broncos. However, the Broncos were the team that nearly (should) have knocked out the 1-seed Roswell Coyotes last season, who went on to win it all. They'll be on the road, like they were last season (beat Artesia on the road in the opening round), and they could be a headache for that host.
Why:
Dowdy but this team moves the ball very well and have an inside presence in 2017 State Tournament name to know - Nathan Enoah. Enoah is around 7 points per game this season but he came alive in the post season in 2017 and likely that could happen in 2018. Add Jarriah Setzer and Terrin Willie and you have a foursome that has a chance to shake things up.
Note: Sleepers series looks at teams that could upset or make a Final Four run in the 2018 State Tournament.
