TEAM VIEWS

(1) Roswell Coyotes (Record: 8-2 Overall, 2-1 District): The Roswell Coyotes are the top seed in the 5A bracket this post season after winning the district championship on the final night of the season. The Coyotes hold wins over Piedra Vista, Belen, and Goddard. The Coyotes are led by one of the top defenders in the state in Cade Manzanares who holds an offer from Black Hills State University. Head Coach: Jeff Lynn

(2) Goddard Rockets (Record: 8-1-1 Overall, 2-1 District): The Goddard Rockets went 8-0-1 to start the season before a final night loss to 1-seed Roswell. The Rockets hold key wins over Artesia, Deming, Portales, and Los Lunas this season. Dalton Bowles leads the way for the Rockets this season and currently holds offers from Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico. Head Coach: Chris White

(3) Los Lunas Tigers (Record: 7-2 Overall, 3-0 District): With only 9-games on their schedule the Tigers enter the post season after winning their district championship against Belen on the final night of their season. The Tigers have experienced some key injuries this season and hope will look to an experienced receiving core to guide a new quarterback. Head Coach: Jeremy Maupin

(4) Artesia Bulldogs (Record: 6-4 Overall, 2-1 District): The Artesia Bulldogs, the defending 5A state champions, will look to defend their title from the 4-seed this post season. Artesia has key wins over Roswell (1), Belen and Deming. The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Clay Houghtaling, 2020, who has passed for over 1,200 yards and 18 passing touchdowns.

(5) Piedra Vista Panthers (Record: 7-3 Overall, 3-0 District): The Piedra Vista Panthers enter the post season winners of 5 of the final 6 games. The Panthers have key wins over Belen, Valley, and St. Pius X. Look for Cameron Swarts (QB) and McKay Cook (RB) to lead the Panthers into the post season. Head Coach: Jared Howell

(6) Belen Eagles (Record: 6-4 Overall, 2-1 District): The third at-large bid in the 5A state playoffs will be the Belen Eagles after winning three of the final four games this season. The Eagles have key wins over Deming, Valley, and Farmington. The Eagles are led running back Diego Casillas this season who has rushed for 1,582 yards and 16 touchdowns. Head Coach: Greg Henington

(7) Deming Wildcats (Record: 6-3-1 Overall, 3-0 District): The Deming Wildcats enter the post season winning five of the final six games this season and being crowned district champions. The Wildcats hold wins over Santa Teresa, Silver and Cobre. The duo of Ceasar Chavez and Jesse Varela will guide the Wildcats into the playoffs as they play host to Farmington in the opening round. Head Coach: Greg Simmons

(8) Valley Vikings (Record: 6-4 Overall, 1-2 District): The Valley Vikings return to the playoffs and do so after winning 6-games. The Vikings own wins over Valencia and Del Norte on the resume. The Vikings will play host to Santa Teresa in the opening round. Manny Sanchez-Vargas, 2019, leads the way as the senior quarterback has 1,798 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and 232 rushing yards. Head Coach: Judge Chavez

(9) Santa Teresa Desert Warriors (Record: 8-2 Overall, 2-1 District): The Desert Warriors are in the playoffs this season. The Desert Warriors have played a record breaking year in wins, reaching the playoffs and a 6-0 start. They will travel for the first round to Albuquerque as they take on 8-seed Valley. The Desert Warriors own wins over Silver, Valencia, and Cobre. Quarterback Izaiah Velazquez, 2019, leads the way for the Desert Warriors with 1,239 rushing yards and 1,113 passing yards this season and 25 total touchdowns (15 rushing). Head Coach: Shae Vierra

(10) Farmington Scorpions (Record: 5-5 Overall, 2-1 District): The Farmington Scorpions are winners of three of the final four games as they enter the post season. They hold wins over Aztec and Del Norte. They will travel in the opening round to Deming, the 7-seed. Calen Carrillo, quarterback, leads the way for the Scorpions into the playoffs. Head Coach: Jeff Dalton

(11) Valencia Jaguars (Record: 6-4 Overall, 0-3 District): Already mentioned several times but the Valencia Jaguars are off to one of their best seasons in the last four years. Before this season the Jaguars had only one 4-games in three years and under first-year head coach Wesley Shank went 6-4 overall this season. The Jaguars have key wins over Bloomfield, Moriarty, and Los Alamos. Robbie Jaramillo, WR, has 1,211 receiving yards this season and 17 touchdowns.

(12) Del Norte Knights (Record: 4-6 Overall, 3-0 District): After an 0-5 start to the season the Knights are winnings of 4 of the final five and won the district 2-5A championship. The Knights will travel to Piedra Vista (No. 5) in the opening round of the playoffs. Isaiah Ortiz (RB) and Christian Mejia (QB) lead the way for the Knights this season as they look to the playoffs. Head Coach: Bruce Binkley
