Player of the Week: Richie Lucero, Sr., Grants HS
Richie Lucero led the 3rd ranked Grants Pirates to two convincing wins the week and likely a top seed in the 5A state tournament. Lucero, led the Pirates with 23 points and 13 rebounds this week.
Coach of the Week: Jim Doherty, Melrose HS
Jim Doherty and the Melrose Buffaloes went 2-0 this week with two dominating wins to move to 20-3, 5-0 this season. The Buffaloes are ranked #1 in 2A basketball and one of the favorites moving forward.
Team of the Week: Tucumcari Rattles
Currently riding a 5-game winning streak and peaking at the right moment in the season the Tucumcari Rattlers went 2-0 this week staying perfect in district play at 5-0.

Starting Five
Zanen Zeller - Los Lunas HS - The freshman had 13 points in a win over Belen on Thursday night.
Jeremy Anaya - Capital HS - Anaya, a top junior in New Mexico, led the way with 22-points in a win over Del Norte on Friday evening.
Richie Lucero - Grants HS - The Player of the Week had a double-double this week and his been playing well during the district slate. Had 23 points and 13 rebounds last week.
Johnny McCants - Onate HS - Arguably one of the best players in the state of New Mexico had a pair of double-doubles this week. McCants had 21 points and 13 rebounds against Las Cruces then followed it up with 18 points and 13 rebounds on Friday.
Jacob Esquivel - Lordsburg HS - Esquivel poured in 35-points on Tuesday night against one of the top teams in 3A basketball.
Second Five
Dalton Thatcher - Texico HS - Under the radar this season, Thatcher put in 14 points against Eunice as the Wolverines are ranked No. 2 in 3A behind Thatcher.
Pierre Swain - Hobbs HS - The senior had another top performance on Tuesday evening against Alamogordo with 35 points.
Cade Benard - Melrose HS - Benard, one of the top players in 2A basketball, put in 23 points against Dora.
Jacob McNeely - Volcano Vista HS - The Hawks are playing better and McNeely putting in 15 points, 5 assists and 3 steals against Rio Rancho a game they won.
Anthony Chavez - Valley HS - The sophomore point guard had a monster week with 21 points on Wednesday in a win over Atrisco and then hit the game winner against Albuquerque High on Friday night.
