Week 2 New Mexico High School Football Recap: Thursday Night Games​

Carlsbad 45, Goddard 22 - Final​

Carlsbad started strong, racing to a 14-0 lead early in the game. They maintained momentum, extending their advantage to 29-2 by halftime. The action began with Carlsbad returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. A quick turnover allowed them to score again, making it 14-0. Later, a punt return touchdown and a well-executed two-minute drive further increased their lead. Joe Parra shone for Goddard, amassing 169 receiving yards and two touchdowns, but his efforts couldn't prevent Goddard from falling to 0-2 on the season.

Dora 59, Carrizozo 0 - Final​

Dora dominated from start to finish, shutting out Carrizozo in a lopsided victory.

Mountain View, TX 33, Santa Teresa 7 - Final​

Mountain View struck first with a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Miguel Avila and never looked back. Santa Teresa managed to cut the deficit to 14-7 with a 36-yard touchdown pass, but it was all Mountain View afterward. Santa Teresa turned the ball over on downs multiple times, allowing Mountain View to extend their lead. Santa Teresa drops to 1-1 on the season.

Newcomb 26, Santa Fe Indian 8 - Final​

Newcomb made an immediate impact, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown in the first 15 seconds. They maintained a strong ground game, scoring the first 26 points and showcasing their physical, run-first offense. Santa Fe Indian managed a 55-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter but fell to 1-1 on the season as Newcomb improved to 2-0.

NMSD 52, Floyd 12 - Final​

NMSD cruised to a decisive victory over Floyd, showcasing their offensive firepower.

Sandia 37, Cibola 7 - Final​

Sandia capitalized on Cibola's special teams mistakes early, scoring a touchdown after a botched punt. Lucas Hoswell's short touchdown run set the tone, followed by Jeremiah Bustillos blocking a punt that Joey Harris recovered for a touchdown. Cibola responded with a 69-yard touchdown pass from Cibola quarterback Noah Carroll hitting Carlos Portillo, but Sandia answered with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Jahleel Lewis. Sandia extended their lead with a 17-yard rush and a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Isaiah Chavez. A safety and another special teams mishap sealed the win for Sandia, who improved to 1-1, while Cibola dropped to 1-1.


St. Pius X 40, Grants 7 - Final​

Sophomore quarterback Isaiah Carpenter led St. Pius X to victory with a stellar performance, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for another. Carpenter connected with Carl Cox-Liggins and Bryan Thomas for touchdowns in the first half, putting the Sartans up 14-0. In the second half, he threw two more touchdown passes, one to Curtis Flakes III and another to Cox-Liggins. Grants' lone score came from a 65-yard rushing touchdown by Joe Clawson. St. Pius X, rebounding from their opening loss, improved to 1-1 on the season, while Grants also dropped to 1-1.
