#2 Cleveland 63, #11 Eldorado 21: Well, quarterback Jeff Davison (2021), has returned to form connecting on 15 of his 18 passes on the night with 7-touchdown passes. Cleveland receiver Trevon Dennard also having a coming out party with nearly 200 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Eldorado did get a highlight, 86-yard kickoff return touchdown, by Zack Hoffman but the Eagles drop to 1-2 on the season. Cleveland now 2-1 on the season will head into a a contest with top ten ranked Mayfield (2-0) next week.
#3 La Cueva 37, #4 Las Cruces 24: The game of the night and we said it was a question on Austin Smith stepping up in a big game. Well, the Bears proved many wrong again as Smith tossed four touchdowns and ran for another as they beat fourth ranked Las Cruces on Friday night in Las Cruces. Also, on Friday night Dominic Camacho hit his 29th field goal which would be a record in New Mexico. The Bulldawgs made things interesting late in the contest on a Israel Ramirez touchdown, his second of the night, that gave the Bulldawgs a 24-23 lead with a couple minutes to go in the third quarter. Connor O'Toole had a pair of touchdowns on the night. La Cueva now 2-1 on the season, Las Cruces dropping it's first game to go to 2-1 on the year.
#6 Roswell 36, #19 Hobbs 29: The nineteenth ranked Hobbs Eagles would strike first in this contest when Jarren Lewis would hit Damien Navarro on a 30-yard touchdown. The Coyotes who made some mistakes and turned the ball over more than normal still made some quality plays by quarterback Dominic Nava and running back Joel Renteria. Roswell improves to 3-0 on the season, Hobbs drops to 0-3 on the year.
#8 Mayfield 52, West Mesa 13: Mayfield quarterback Zach Ingram joins a group of quality showings from quarterbacks on Friday night. Ingram tossed two touchdowns, 213 yards and was 14 of 21 on passes. Matthew Riley was on 109 of those receiving yards by Ingram and a touchdown. Mayfield running Aaron Thompson also rushed for over 100 yards on the night. Mayfield now 2-0 on the season will travel north to take on second ranked Cleveland. West Mesa falls to 0-3 on the season.
#9 Rio Rancho 48, #7 Clovis 47: Zach Vigil (2022) got things started for the Rams and rushed his way to 160 yards on the night. He reached the end zone four times as the Rams earned their first win of the season (1-2). Chance Harris of Clovis had a nice 65 yard touchdown to Malik Phillips but the Wildcats dropped their ninth straight loss to the Rams, they now sit at 2-1 on the season.
#10 Los Lunas 28, #22 Sandia 3: Los Lunas Tigers quarterback Kade Benavidez tossed three touchdowns in the win over No. 22 Sandia on Friday night. Lorenzo Sosa, a Tigers receiver, was on two of the three touchdown passes on the night the latter was a 40-yard touchdown to make it 28-3. The Sandia Matadors struggled to move the ball and drop to 1-2 on the season; Los Lunas is now 2-1 on the year.
#12 Goddard 55, #17 Deming 0: The defense has yet to allow a single point this season and the offense had their best showing of the season. Goddard quarterback Robert Aragon started things off for the Rockets and never looked back, later passing to Rio Lee and then Elijah Romero for first half scores. The Rockets are now 3-0 on the season. Deming drops to 2-1 on the year.
#14 Artesia 56, Belen 14: After a Belen 7-6 lead mid-way through the first quarter it would be all orange from that point on in this one. Clay Houghtaling went for a 48 touchdown to make the score 13-7 and then a minute later hitting Braxton McDonald for a 91-yard score. The two would connect again in the second to improve the score to 42-7. Artesia goes to 2-1 on the season, Belen falls to 1-2.
The Rest of the 25
#16 Piedra Vista 37, Valley 0: The Panthers go to 2-1 on the season with a convincing win over Valley (0-3).
#18 Portales 46, #21 West Las Vegas 7: Making a point to the rest of the state is another stellar performance by the Portales Rams on their way to a 3-0 start. West Las Vegas drops their first game to go to 2-1.
#23 Farmington 34, Del Norte 21: The Scorpions go to 3-0 on the season with a win over Del Norte (0-3).
#24 St. Pius X 31, Kirtland Central 11: St. Pius X gets their first win of the season and it was a nice classification win. The Sartans are now 1-2, Kirtland Central goes to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
#25 Eunice 48, Hatch Valley 12: Eunice quarterback Mason Caperton hit several targets for scores on the night as the Cardinals move to 3-0 and extend the winning streak to 28. Hatch Valley is now 1-2 on the season.
