Week Five: Questions Facing Top-25 Ranked Teams This Week
Grine | NMPreps.com

Is No. 5 Rio Rancho back and can their defense hold No. 3 La Cueva?
Scoop: The Rams' defense has played well in back-to-back weeks against a pair of top-10 teams in Clovis and at Las Cruces. With the La Cueva Bears, they are putting up 34 points per game and played without Connor O'Toole last week. Rio Rancho is hot right now and has had some salty defensive backs in the past - if they can pressure Smith (LC QB) and lockdown the receiving options - they have a real shot at the upset here.

Playoffs?...playoffs?...playoffs? The No. 9 Mayfield Trojans and No. 11 Carlsbad Cavemen will play for a playoff spot on Saturday, right?
Scoop: Mayfield is 2-1 and Carlsbad is 3-1 on the season and yes you are reading this right, we are talking playoffs positions here. Also, can you believe that we have a district game this week? Both teams are sitting around 10-12 seed range and this one could likely be the determining factor for a seed. The question could also be: will this be the year Carlsbad finally reaches the playoffs?

Will Centennial QB Aiden Trujillo win the New Mexico Mr. Football Award?
Scoop: The New Mexico Mr. Football award is the top individual honor in New Mexico high school football. Trujillo, has had a monster monster season to this point with 831-passing yards and 9-touchdowns along with rushing for another 332-yards and 7 touchdowns. The Centennial Hawks (No. 4 NMPreps Top-25) face the winless and unranked Onate Knights this week. Trujillo will likely get pulled early but I could see him getting to 1,000-yards passing and 500-yards rushing on the season after this week and candidacy is high.

Is No. 21 Bloomfield the real deal?
Scoop: The Bloomfield Bobcats are 4-0 on the season and still riding off their State Championship showing from last season. They now face their first true test of the season as they take on a red hot Hope Christian (3-1) team that has won the last three games.
