Top 25 Recap



No. 1 Cleveland 41, No. 5 Eldorado 34
Eldorado jumped out to a 14-0 lead following a fumble and two touchdown passes from Jayce Jackson in the 1st quarter. Cleveland’s homecoming crowd of 8,000 fans was silent. The Storm would make it 14-all at the break. In the end a 5-yard touchdown from Shawn Neito would be the difference making in a game that featured big offense and some big time plays. On the night Cleveland was led by Gabe Ortega who threw for 355-yards and 3 touchdowns, he also ran for over 100-yards on the night. Eldorado’s Jayce Jackson threw for over 300-yards as well with 4 touchdown passes, David Inman scored 3 interceptions, and recorded an interception. Noah Sweitzer scored off a 40-yard touchdown run and had over 15 tackles on the night. Cleveland now 6-0 is open in week 7, Eldorado 5-1 will start district play against La Cueva.

No. 2 Alamogordo 56, No. 17 Deming 12
Now 6-0 on the year, Alamogordo blew past Deming by 44 points Friday Night. Junior Quarterback Kyle Hooper has thrown for three straight 300-yard performances, against the Wildcats last night he hit the 350-mark with 3 touchdowns passes. Also in the stat box for the Tigers was Hunter Graham who ran for 172-yards and 4 touchdowns and forced 7 Wildcat Turnovers. Alamogordo will head to the Bulldog Bowl next week to take on Artesia, Deming now 3-3 will take on Las Cruces as they open District 3-6A play.

No. 3 Centennial
Open. Will take on Los Lunas in week 7.

No. 6 Las Cruces 41, No. 4 Artesia 25
Friday Night at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces Senior Quarterback Kameron Miller had him another night to remember. Miller who is expected to announce his college decision today, October 3rd ran for 245-yards and scored 3 touchdowns, he was also 9-19 passing for 106-yards. Artesia was missing Justin Houghtaling who is out due to a torn calf muscle and is expected to miss the next few weeks according to our sconces. Sophomore Quarterback Taylor Null threw for 378-yards on the night. Also in the stat box is Las Cruces Sophomore Payton Ball who ran for 3 touchdowns. The Bulldawgs now 4-2 will take on Deming in their district opener next week, Artesia now 5-1 will take on undefeated Alamogordo at home in week 7.

No. 14 Manzano 21, No. 7 Mayfield 17
The Manzano Monarchs 3-3 shook up the Class 6A rankings and even playoff picture Friday Night with a 4-point upset win over the Trojans who are now also 3-3. The Trojans led 17-7 in the 3rd quarterback, however Manzano’s Quarterback Orlando Perez would throw two late touchdown passes helping Manzano dig out the massive upset. Mayfield Running Back Isaac Vance ran for 150-yards and two touchdowns on the night. The Monarchs will take on Sandia next week, the Trojans who have now lost three in a row will take on Onate in their District 3-6A opener.

No. 8 Volcano Vista 43, West Mesa 7
The Volcano Vista Hawks move to 4-2 on the season with an impressive victory over West Mesa in week 6. On the night, the Hawks were led by Quarterback Josh Williams who scored 4 touchdowns, Running Back Chris Streez who scored on a 51-yard touchdown run, and also got a field goal from kick Nick Mourning. The Hawks will take on Cibola in a marquee District 1-6A opener in week 7, West Mesa now 1-5 will open District 5-6A play against Valley.

No. 9 Rio Rancho @ Atrisco Heritage
Game takes place Saturday, October 3rd.

Lubbock Coronado 58, Hobbs 35
Qua Gray scored 5 touchdowns Friday Night against Hobbs defeating the Eagles by 23 points. Gray was 16-32 passing for 383-yards on the night. He first connected with Chance Fair for a 66-yard score, then threw a 55-yard touchdown to make it 14-7 in the first quarter. The Eagles were led by Isaac Amaya who threw for 468-yards with 3 touchdowns and Brevin Thompson who hauled in 146-yards. The Eagles now 3-3 will take on Lea County rival Lovington in week 7.

No. 11 Clovis @ Lubbock Frenship
Clovis lost their third game in a row Friday Night against Lubbock Frenship. Early in the game with Clovis leading, Star Junior Running Back Micah Gray was carried off in a stretcher, both teams converged in prayer for 10-minutes (we hear Gray is going to be fine, by the way and will post an official update when we hear from his coaches/parents). Wildcat Quarterback Daulton Hatley connected with Roland Chavez on the night for two scores. The Wildcats led 21-16 entering the 4th quarter. Clovis now 3-3 will take on Grants in week 7.

No. 12 Cibola 60, Highland 22
Now at 5-1 on the season, people are starting to talk about the Cibola Cougars who blew past Highland Thursday Night 60-22. On the evening leading the Cougars it would be Running Back Kazyan Martin who scored 5 touchdowns, it was his second 5 touchdown game of these season. Quarterback Gannon Chavez continues his strong year throwing for 301-yards and 3 touchdowns. The Cougars will take on Volcano Vista next week in a marquee district 1-6A match up.

No. 18 Goddard 41, Fabens 13
Friday Night the Goddard Rockets moved to 3-3 on the year defeating Fabens 41-13. The Rockets were led by the Lukas Gutierrez who scored 2 touchdowns on the night. Next week the Rockets take on 0-5 Carlsbad at Ralph Bowyer.

No. 19 Onate @ Rio Grande
For the second week in a row, Onate has dominated the competition. Last week the Knights blew past West Mesa 49-0, last night against Rio Grande they won 54-0 by way of mercy rule. The Kngihts are now 2-4 on the season and will take on Mayfield in their district opener next week.

No. 20 Valley 60, Aztec 42
Last week against La Cueva, Running Back Michael Barboa ran for 100-yards and 3 scores, against Aztec last night he ran for an incredible 202-yards and 5 touchdowns as Valley routed Aztec. The Vikings now 2-4 will take on West Mesa, Aztec now 1-5 will take on Gallup.

No. 21 Farmington 53, Grants 14
The Farmington Scorpions keep winning under first year Head Coach Jeff Dalton. Against Grants Friday Night, the Scorpions were led by Quarterback Kody Becentio who scored 3 touchdowns on the night. Farmington will open district play next week against cross town rival Piedra Vista.

No. 22 La Cueva 38, Del Norte 7
La Cueva picked up their second win of the season defeating Del Norte Thursday Night by 31 points. Noah Hill scored two touchdowns, Derek Loidolt returned a fumble for a touchdown, and Chris Campbell threw for just shy of 100-yards. Also in the mix was La Cueva’s Elijah McKnight who scored one touchdown. The Bears now 2-4 will take on Eldorado in their district opener next week.

Albuquerque 49, No. 23 Miyamura 31
The Albuquerque Bulldogs snapped a 4-game losing streak Friday in Gallup defeating Miyamura on the road 49-31. The Bulldogs move to 2-4 on the year, Miyamura is now 3-3 on the season and will take on Piedra Vista next on October 16th.

No. 24 Hatch 60, Tularosa 6
Hatch Continued to flex their muscle Friday Night in another blowout victory. The Bears picked up their 6th win in a row to move 6-0 and will enter district play next week against Socorro.

Espanola 60, Taos 16
The Sundevils for the first time in school history are a perfect 6-0. Friday Night the Sundevils dominated Taos and were led by Marcos Flores who scored 3 touchdowns on the night. Espanola will take on Del Norte on October 16th.

Portales 50, Pojoaque 0
Portales moved to 6-0 on the night for the first time in school history. Rams Quarterback Junior Ramirez threw for 131-yards and 4 touchdowns. Bronte Staugaard ran for 216-yards and 3 touchdowns.

Capital 26, Lovington 20
Friday Night Capital did something no one thought they could ever do: Beat Lovington, they did it on the road on the smurf turf in Lovington Friday Night to move to 4-2 on the season. The Jaguars will take on Los Alamos in week 7.

Cobre 54, Lordsburg 14
The Cobre Indians moved to 4-2 on the season with a big 40 point win over Lordsburg Friday Night. Cobre Quarterback Andru Sanchez was 19-34 passing for 327-yards and 3 touchdowns, Robertson Rodriguez caught for 112-yards, Dominic Redwine caught for 111-yards, Redwine also led the team in tackles with 7.

Melrose 54, Boise City 14
Melrose moved to 6-0 on the season derating Boise City Friday Night. Cade Barnard scored 3 touchdowns, Wyatt Williams scored 2 touchdowns.
