BIG FIVE FOR TUESDAY
Carlsbad (10-3) at Artesia (7-5): Eddy County battle takes place tonight with both teams ranked in the top 10 of their respected classifications. Artesia features a talented group with some depth. Carlsbad brings a high energy guard that led them to a win in the first meeting, 47-36 win for Carlsbad (December 6th).
Gadsden (6-5) at Las Cruces (13-1): Well, believe it or not but it is the start of district play in 3-5A. Las Cruces will battle with a Gadsden team looking to make a move this season.
Mayfield (4-10) at Alamogordo (11-3): How good is Alamogordo? Will Mayfield be a late bloomer? Alamogordo is in the power 16 rankings but many still have questions if they can be a sleeper. Mayfield is coming off a quality win over Los Lunas and maybe on the verge of making some movement.
St. Pius X (4-5) at Sandia Prep (6-5): Some history here as both head coaches have the same mentor and were on staff at SPX. St. Pius X is a newly ranked team in 4A hoops while Sandia Prep sits at the top of 3A basketball. Prep is coming off an impressive week at the Gallup invite.
Lovington (7-3) at Clovis (10-4): This could be a tell all for the Lovington Wildcats. Yes, they are off to a 7-3 start, they have the one resume win over Alamogordo, but this could give us a true picture of the Wildcats.

Highland vs Rio Rancho (at Volcano Vista)
Manzano at Atrisco Heritage (at Valley)
Valley at Albuquerque (at Valley)
Scoop: These three are the best games of the opening round. The others should go as expected. Highland and Rio Rancho has done battle a couple times already this season and this one should be as good. Valley-Albuquerque has the history factor, plus it could be a battle this season but Albuquerque has played below the expectation so far. Atrisco Heritage could be the most talked about squad after this week - ranked outside the top-8 right now but wouldn't shock a single person if they win the Metro.
