JOE ARMIJO TOURNAMENT - Albuquerque Academy
No. 1 Carlsbad 54, No. 23 Los Los Lunas 41

Carlsbad junior forward Brenden Boatwright (2017) went to work in the second half for the Cavemen (4-0) on his way to 18-points on the night as they avoid an upset to a sweet shooting No. 24 Los Lunas Tigers team, 54-41.

Chris Johnson (2017) the 'other' big man in the paint for the Cavemen finished with 11-points in the win. The Cavemen (4-0) used their dominant inside play against a guard savvy Tigers squad. The Tigers came out firing and went into the half with a 3-point lead 25-22. The smaller Tigers team created issues for the bigger Cavemen who look strictly for inside play.

The Los Lunas Tigers (1-3) had several players step up to play well for the Tigers. Junior shooting guard Hunter Wisneski had the hot had on the night to finish with 17-points.


JOE ARMIJO TOURNAMENT - Albuquerque Academy
No. 4 Onate 50, No. 5 Hope Christian 38

The one-two punch for the Onate Knights (4-2) went to work early for the Top-5 win over Albuquerque's Hope Christian (2-1) in first round action of the Joe Armijo Tournament held at Albuquerque Academy.

Hunter Thomas (2017) an outside shooting specialist put in 14 points for the Knights and made plays throughout the game on both ends of the court. NMPreps.com Mr. Basketball candidate Johnny McCants proved why he is one of the top players in the state with a 14-point, 15 rebound and 5 block night, with playing limited minutes in the second half due to foul trouble.

The Hope Christian Huskies couldn't get anything going offensively on the night. Jordan Leake a wing for the Huskies led the way with 14-points as the Huskies drop their first game of the season.

JOE ARMIJO TOURNAMENT - Albuquerque Academy
Del Norte 55, Albuquerque Academy 40

In first round action of the Joe Armijo Tournament the host team Albuquerque Academy Chargers (0-5) fell to fellow 5A team Del Norte (1-4), 55-40.

The Del Norte Knights started quick on the Chargers and moved on to their first win of the 2015-2016 season. Point guard David Flores (2018) a super quick guard made smart plays off the dribble finishing well off the dribble. Flores finished the evening with 13 points for the Knight.

Alonso Cano (2016) led the way for the Knights in the points column finishing with 14-points. Cano a three point shooter for the Knights found himself open early and knocked it down.

The Chargers were led by point guard Mazen Hassan who finished the night with 13-points.

No. 9 Valley 53, Clovis 45

This one was all Valley (2-2) from the get-go as sophomore sensation Anthony Chavez had 10 first half points and did it with ease. The Vikings took a 25-7 first quarter lead and played a majority of the bench throughout.

The Vikings had a trifecta of a night with Teton Saltes getting buckets in the paint, while wing Segun Oyeku (2018) hit a three or took it to the paint. Oyeku had 9-points heading into the half.

The Vikings took a 37-18 lead into the half and on their way to a 53-45 win. The Wildcats (1-3) tried fighting back into this one, still limited to 9-players as several starters are injured with look to rebound against Albuquerque Academy in the consolation semi-final.

Top-25 Recaps

Durango, CO 72, No. 3 Cleveland 65: The number three team in the state of New Mexico traveled to the northwest corner of the state, participating in the Marv Sanders tournament (Farmington High School). The Storm drop their first game of the season falling to (3-1) on the year.

No. 6 Rio Rancho 52, Mayfield 50: Heading to the southeast corner the No. 6 Rio Rancho Rams improved to (4-1) on the season, avoiding an upset loss to unranked Mayfield (2-5). Clay Patterson led the way for the Rams finishing with 24 points on the night.

No. 10 Roswell 94, Bernalillo 67: At the Hub City Tournament at Belen High School the second ranked (5A) Coyotes (3-0) walked away with a 94-67 victory. The Coyotes started hot and swarmed the Spartans (1-2) all night.

No. 11 Rio Grande 74, Rio Rancho (JV) 51: The 11th ranked Ravens (4-0) improved their record with a win over Rio Rancho's Junior Varsity team. The Ravens move onto the semi-finals of the Hub City Invitational.

No. 15 Gadsden 47, Santa Fe Indian 34: The Gadsden Panthers (6-2) come out on top at the Capital City Invitational with a win over Santa Fe Indian School, 47-34. Tomas Cano finished with 16 points in the win for the Panthers.

No. 20 Española Valley 69, Valencia 56: AZ Salazar led the way for the Espanola Valley Sundevils with 13 points as the Sundevils move on in the Sandia Prep Tournament. Isaiah Vigil also finished in double figures with 14 points on the night.

Piedra Vista 66, Kirtland Central 56:
At the Marv Sanders Invitational it was the Panthers coming out on top of the regional match-up. Jarrett Graham led the way with 14-points as the Panthers improved to (3-1) on the season. Keegan Acosta had 13 points.
