Best team in New Mexico ever, IMHO, was the the 1970 Hobbs Eagles with Larry Robinson and Larry Williams, among others. The had the national scoring record for average points per game for decades. The only other team that could have hung with this group was the 1978 Hobbs team, the one which scored 176 points in a game. That '78 team did not win the state title, but then they lost their entire starting lineup due to injury, including the amazing Jeff Taylor. Unreal talent and teamwork. Many great teams around the state since, but I'm not sure if there have ever been any better. (I'm not from Hobbs).

Growing up I always heard how good that team was. Knowing how good and competitive Coach Sanchez he is I wish I could have seen the 84 team.

This was the only year we didn't play Santa Rosa, they dropped us after the 83 season.
