2022 Season: 9-2 overall, 5-0 district
Best Case Scenario: 10-0 overall. Perfection. Head coach Aaron Ocampo continues to keep the Centennial football program at the top of 6A football. Each season we enter with questions and concerns but on the other end of the line is coach Ocampo outplaying any preseason projection. The Hawks have a difficult schedule and the first three games are the toughest three game swing of any team. Last season they went 2-1 in those games. The good news for the '23 season is the Hawks have 2 of 3 at home this season (Cleveland, La Cueva). District will be great challenges, Hobbs battled last season (27-20) but the Hawks remain the top dawg. Sticking true to the feature the Hawks are favored or in a coin flip with every game. 10-0 is the ceiling, 13-0 would be the mountain.
Worst Case Scenario: 6-4 overall. For most teams 6 wins would be a huge achievement. It feels high for any team. The thing with the Hawks is that they have averaged 9 wins in the last three - full - seasons played (9-2 in '22, 8-2 in '21, and 10-2 in '19). The concern remains the top three games for the Hawks with Cleveland on opening night, followed by a trip to El Paso-Franklin, capped with a visit by La Cueva. I don't see them going 0-3 but it also wouldn't be season ending for them. Just the schedule built. Also, yes, it is true they only have 9-games scheduled. Hopefully they act fast come the next scheduling block to secure 10 games.
