2022 Post Season: Missed Playoffs

Best Case Scenario: 7-3 overall. Perhaps one of the more intriguing teams heading into the 2023 season. With a handful of coin flip games the Matadors can either ride into the season as a dark horse at reaching the playoffs or missing out on selection night because of a late, nail biting loss. They split with Atrisco Heritage (W, 59-36) and Piedra Vista (L, 14-12) before beating Albuquerque High (34-21). Sitting at 2-1 they fell to Volcano Vista (33-7) before beating Manzano (49-14). Then a four game skid dropped them to 3-6 before ending the season with a 40-34 win over Cibola. Two big games against West Mesa (L, 21-14) and Eldorado (L, 42-39 OT) ultimately is what kept the Matadors at bay in November.

Worst Case Scenario: 3-7 overall. With plenty of coin flip games their worst case scenario would flip them to 3 wins for the 2023 season. They beat Manzano, 49-14, and Albuquerque High, 34-21, last season and should be heavy favorites in both again this Fall. Cibola provided a fight last season, 40-34, but early predictions have the Matadors moving along well against a team going through a rebuild in '23. The kicker here is Atrisco Heritage, which we have in the coin scenario, giving us plenty to watch on opening night that could eventually hold their fate. Will game one be a tell-all for the Matadors?
