#1. GODDARD ROCKETS
Last Season Record: 18-6, 5-1
Last Season District Finish: 1st Place
Quick Hit: The Goddard Rockets had a stellar season that finished with a Final Four birth in the State Tournament. The Rockets pulled off 18-wins last season and are looking to keep this momentum moving forward this season. The bad news they graduate 6 players off that Final Four team. The good news they bring back some talent in Shaylee Griffin (2016/MB), who will hope to lead this team.
The biggest question regarding the Rockets: Do they have enough young talent to negate the fact they graduated 90% of their roster? Outside of Griffin they don't have much experience.
#2. ARTESIA BULLDOGS
Last Season Record: 13-9, 2-4
Last Season District Finish: 3rd Place
Quick Hit: The Lady Bulldogs hope to move a slot up this year and improve off a 13-9 season. The Bulldogs also received an at-large bid to the State Tournament last season and only graduate a pair of players from the 2014 squad. This could be the making of a team that could make a Final Four run. Jenna Butcher (2016/MH), Erica Reyes (2016/OH), Chelsea Evans (2017/MH) are the names to know this coming season.
The biggest question regarding the Bulldogs: They played well against all the teams on their southern schedule but do they need to add a few more northern games? Academy took them out 3-0 in the state tournament.
#3 ROSWELL COYOTES
Last Season Record: 18-6, 5-1
Last Season District Finish: 2nd Place
Quick Hit: The Coyotes only graduate four players and could be sitting at 3rd place this preseason at mistake only. They have a senior class that has plenty of experience and could make this team the threat from this district. Gail Sanchez (2016/MH) returns along with several outside hitters.
The biggest question regarding Roswell: The Coyotes have the talent and depth. Like Artesia doe the lack of northern experience hinder the Coyotes? They lost 3-0 to Los Alamos in the state tournament.
#4 LOVINGTON WILDCATS
Last Season Record: 7-13, 0-6
Last Season District Finish: 4th Place
Quick Hit: Year two in 5A and like many sports at Lovington High School, they have seen better days. The Wildcats struggled to a 7-win season in 2014. More bad news is they graduate 7-players off that 2014 team. Sydney Saxton (2016/OPP) and Addyson Jeter (2017/OH) return for the Wildcats as they try to fight in 5A.
The biggest question regarding the Wildcats: Will the young talent actually surprise some teams?
