6A Preview

Cleveland is the heavy favorite going into the tournament. Dating back to 2007 Either Rio Rancho or Cleveland has claimed a big school state championship and if you ask the 6A wrestling community that is unlikely to change this weekend. The Storm qualified 13 with one wildcard which puts them with 14 wrestlers competing over the next two days. Rio Rancho qualified 12 with two wildcards as did Las Cruces, Rio Grande, Manznao, and Eldorado each qualified 13 wrestlers, Volcano Vista with 12, and Carlsbad with 11.

Storm enter with plenty of heavy hitters

Joseph Otero at 106 is a freshmen out of Cleveland that is a strong candidate to bring home the Blue entering the tournament with a record of 37-1. At 113 also from Cleveland is Treavon Nicoley who is a senior and has an outstanding record of 37-3. At 120 Cleveland is led by Noah Mirabal a junior with a record of 28-4, at 126 Michael Mascarenas is a junior with a record of 32-6, at 182 Santiago Apodaca is 25-3, Raymond Juarez at 195 is a junior who is 21-8, at 220 Brendon Armstead is 18-6, and at 285 pounds is Daimon Altamirano with a record of 25-6.
