TOURNAMENT IS GETTING CLOSE

Today, on NMPreps.com we continue our weekly view of the 12-teams that will make up the state tournament. Teams are locks and have made it clear they will receive a bid to the state tournament while a select few are fighting for the chance.

6A

"THE AUTOMATICS"

This group belongs to those who have earned the right into the state tournament by winning their district. Yes, some districts are down but we still reward you for winning your region and I'm still in favor of this tradition.

D1-6A: Volcano Vista (8-4, 2-0). The win over Cibola was huge and put them in the drivers seat.
D 2-6A: La Cueva (12-0, 2-0). Not much more to put here, other than they are the favorite.
D 3-6A: Onate (8-5, 1-0). Last week we had them as an at-large bid. They beat Cruces and look like the leaders at the moment.
D 4-6A: Alamogordo (4-9, 0-0). This district kicks-off this week but the Cruces win helps this resume, even with 4-wins.
D 5-6A: West Mesa (5-6, 2-0). Had Albuquerque High here but closer look and we like the Lady Mustangs play as of late.

"THE AT-LARGE"

This group could get tricky, and arguments could (we wish they would) be given for others over teams that we have listed.

Cibola (8-3, 0-1). You can never count out a defending champion and one with a D-1 player.
Eldorado (6-5, 0-1). Hail from District 2-6A, have a "bad" loss to a 2A program but still a solid team.
Sandia (6-5, 1-1). Will mix it up with Eldorado and La Cueva. Hard not to put this team in this group as all losses are "okay" losses. Nothing really hurts them.
Las Cruces (7-7, 1-1). Weird resume for a roller coaster team. Loss to Alamo hurts but a District runner-up from this district will help their case.

"BUBBLE IN - BOTTOM THREE"

Mayfield (10-5, 1-1). Hard to see them as a top-four seed a week ago to a bottom three in group. I can't see putting them above other teams in the next group at the moment.
Cleveland (6-7, 1-0). Doesn't help being under .500 but this team has been playing better as of late and on a 2-game win streak. Resume builders are wins over Roswell, Las Cruces and Sandia. Maybe should be in the group above over Las Cruces.
Gadsden (7-6, 1-0). They'll have a win over a DC (Alamo, Hobbs or Clovis) that could help this team over bubble out teams.

"BUBBLE OUT"

Albuquerque High (4-7, 1-0). Like district 4-6A, only one team is getting a bid. West Mesa has it right now.
Valley (5-7, 1-1). Insert line from above. Maybe a season away?
Santa Fe (7-6, 1-1). Strange as it may sound but I was about to put Santa Fe High above Albuquerque High and Valley. Well, maybe not to strange but need to tie with the third place team in this district and right now that is either Cleveland or Cibola.
