2A Wide Open?

Melrose and Mora are favorites. Melrose has good top wins against Gateway and Escalante. Mora with wins over Escalante and Logan. The big question mark has been the defending state champ, Magdalena who have no losses against 2A teams but have what some would call a "light" schedule. I'm not bashing the Steers, because they've done well enough thus far. Both Magdalena and Logan both seem like Money In The Bank owners just waiting for March to come along to stun someone and get back to the title game.
Gateway lost to Melrose by 11 points (poor shooting, again). IF Gateway can increase their shooting percentage above the 50% mark, they will give Melrose a run, I still have faith that the Warriors make it to the Final 4. Magdalena didn't do to well in the first round of the Capitan Tourney, losing to Quemado. Anyone can have a bad game, they did well the rest of the tournament.
Melrose,Mora,Logan Escalante and Gateway are the teams to look at in 2A down the stretch.Magdalena,could be there but lost Chambers ,not near the team they were last year.
Haven't seen Gateway but have seen Worrel during the summers and he is very good, pretty doubtful anybody able to match up with him at that level,without double teaming him which as you pointed out is going to make shooting percentage really important because a lot of guys are going to get good looks, I know Melrose,Mora and Logan all,excell in an up tempo game so I would thinktempo control and execution will be very important to them also
Melrose and Mora,are frontrunners in 2A,but Escalante took Mora to the wire in the NRG,and actually could have beat Mora if not for foul trouble with Montano out at the end,JoJo Hurd had double figures and was double and triple teamed most of the game.Melrose beat Escalante early on in the season by 20 or so....still think any of the top 5 or so teams ....Melrose,Mora,Logan Escalante,Gateway could win the blue trophy this year!!
A couple of dark horses could be Hagerman or Fort Sumner. These two seem to have come on lately after some close losses early on. Could get an upset somewhere in the tourney...
Melrose and Mora are definitely the favorites....but they are certainly beatable. The team nobody is giving any credit to is Menaul, they did beat Logan by 13. Two scary teams to play will be Mesa Vista and Dora. Mesa Vista's quickness causes a lot of problems and Dora has had the injury bug since Christmas. Privett has been either sitting out or at half speed since EPAC. As he gets healthier, I doubt anybody will be licking their chops to play them early (beat Quemado by 16 and played Melrose to 6 when they were at full speed). From what I see, I truly think 8 of the top 11 teams are from two districts.
