4A New Mexico HS Football Bracket Breakdown

The 2021 New Mexico high school football playoffs are here and we take a look at each bracket and give our predictions. #nmpreps

4A Bracket
#1 Lovington
#2 Bloomfield
#3 St. Pius X
#4 Moriarty
#5 Albuquerque Academy vs #12 Bernalillo
#6 Ruidoso vs #11 Aztec
#7 Valencia vs #10 Taos
#8 Silver (6-4) vs #9 Kirtland Central (5-5)

Ranking the 1st Round Games
(8) Silver vs (9) Kirtland Central: 1pm, Sat. The two teams met in week one of the season, Silver came out ahead 28-21 in Farmington. Sophomore quarterback Aidan Granado leads the way for Silver with over 1500 total offensive yards this season. 5-foot-9 running back Zakk Thomas is coming off a 108-yard rushing day against No. 2 Bloomfield. We have this one on the earlier upset alert but over 350 miles will be traveled by the Broncos for this one.

(7) Valencia vs (10) Taos: 7pm, Fri. Valencia Jaguar quarterback Rey Garcia has led the way for the team this season and will look to keep things moving in the right direction. The Taos Tigers also led by a junior quarterback in 6-foot-6 Daemon Ely. The Tiger quarterback has over 1,000-yards passing this season as they look for an upset bid.

(6) Ruidoso vs (11) Aztec: 2pm, Sat. The 4A bracket is projected to bring us the must-see games in the first round. Three of the four lines are close with upset alerts on all of them. This one is no exception. Braxton Hall (2022) and Griffin Hooker (2022) lead the offense for the Warriors. Landan Frost (2024) leads the offense with 1300 yards passing and Jacob Greyeyes (2023) on defense for the Aztec Tigers.

(5) Albuquerque Academy vs (12) Bernalillo: 3pm, Fri. The first game was a low scoring affair with the 5-seed Chargers winning 14-7. We should expect junior quarterback Andres Rivera to toss it more this time around. Rivera has over 2,000-yards passing this season. Bernalillo will look to a strong defense led by Kavin Chavez (2022) who at LB has over 100-total tackles on the season.

Line
(5) Albuquerque Academy -8.5
(6) Ruidoso -3.5
(7) Valencia -3
(8) Silver -1.5

Predictions
Kirtland Central 22, Silver 21
Valencia 24, Taos 20
Ruidoso 28, Aztec 24
Albuquerque Academy 24, Bernalillo 12

5-8 Seed That Could Win Two
(7) Valencia. The Jaguars have a very tough game in the opener against Taos. If they get by the Tigers, awaiting at No. 2 is the Bloomfield Bobcats, a team the Jaguars upset earlier this season. Doing it twice will be tough but then again it is the playoffs.

Best Odds at Winning the SC
1) Lovington
2) St. Pius X
3) Moriarty
4) Albuquerque Academy
5) Bloomfield
6) Valencia
7) Taos
8) Ruidoso
9) Aztec
10) Bernalillo
11) Silver
12) Kirtland Central
Scoop: We see a Lovington Wildcat-St. Pius X Sartan State Championship. The winner of Silver and Kirtland will have a tough quarterfinal game.
