There was some discussion regarding the MaxPreps baseball rankings and whether they take into account out-of-state games and whether out-of-state games affect a team's strength of schedule.
The following is the answer directly from NMAA:
"Games versus out of state teams do count towards the MaxPreps rankings. The only contests that do not count are those which pair up a varsity school versus a sub-varsity school (i.e. Eunice Varsity vs. Hobbs JV or something like that). We do not have the ability to go in to the system and “select” certain games to count/not count."
I know a coach (I think from PV, but could be wrong) thought that the MaxPreps rankings only included in-state games. We now know that all games are included in the rankings.
I continue to think that the MaxPreps rankings are probably the best option NMAA has, but subject to my complaint when out-of-state teams do not enter all of their results, which can affect a team's strength of schedule and ranking.
