Best Boxers Of All Time

Obviously there have been some great boxers from all eras but to list a few I've been able to watch.

Roy Jones Jr.
Evander Holyfield
Late 80s Mike Tyson (pre-King if you will)
Bernard Hopkins
Sugar Ray Leonard
Marvin Hagler
Julio Cesar Chavez
Thomas Hearns
Roberto Duran
Manny Paquiao
Arturo Gatti

These guys were true warriors in the ring and more times than not put on a show.

Mr Jones Jr. Is the man!!! A pugilist to end all in the modern era of boxing. This guy's skills are off the charts, too bad he was an odd weight class.
A close second is Sugar Ray Leonard.

The Golden Boy
He could box.

Oscar was on the brink of becoming an all-time great when he was 100% focused on being a boxer. In my opinion he let becoming famous as an actor, a singer, a promoter get in the way of that.

If he could've finished off Trinidad and Mayweather (which were 2 fights that he was winning and didn't finish strong), he'd be in the upper tier of all time greats no doubt.

Here's another question. Which was the better boxing era?
1980s- Sugar Ray, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Mancini, Camacho, Chavez, etc
1970s- Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Spinks, Lyle, etc

or 90s- Oscar De La Hoya, Iron Mike, Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holyfield, Julio Cesar Chavez and even Mayweather started in 1996

Julio Ceasar Chavez.

I'm never awed or freaked out when I meet celebrities or dignitaries. But when I met Julio Ceasar Chavez I was in awe. Life altering experience. I then got to sit next to him at one of his sons fight and it was the same. I was in absolute awe.

All of the guys mentioned above were warriors in the ring. They all had fights that were absolute wars in the ring.

Mayweather didn't ever have to show if he was a warrior. He was a very talented defensive fighter that had the speed, quickness and skill to avoid these types of fights. Other than De La Hoya, he never fought anyone with near his skill set in their prime. Pac would've been the guy but Mayweather stalled until Pac was well past his prime.

I give Mayweather credit for being very smart and selective with his career. You can't argue his success in the ring and financially. He was a great boxer but he wasn't a warrior. There's no way I'd put him in the same class as most of the boxers mentioned above.

These are all great names. What I want to know is what is the most exciting match-ups people remember. Great Battles??? 1 single fight, a rematch or a trilogy.

My favorite 3 fight trilogy has to be Mikey Ward vs. Arturo Gatti wars

Chavez - Taylor fight.

Chavez was easily losing his first fight. In the last 30 seconds of the fight Chavez knocks out Taylor.

My old friend Johnny Tapia was pure heart and soul. Great speed, footwork, and could deliver a punch. We first met in the late 70's boxing in Santa Fe as kids.

Pound for Pound was he/is he better than Mayweather?
Julio Cesar Chavez was 89-0 before he lost his first fight, past his prime. Mayweather will never touch that statistic and i dont think anyone else will ever. Pound for Pound it is hard to say who is the best fighter in any weight division. I will say one thing about Chavez and that was he was a brawler. Mayweather would rarely go toe to toe with anyone. The only reason Mayweather beat Maidana was all the hugging and holding. Someone counted over 70 times Mayweather tied up Maidana in the ring. In addition, Chavez he was humble, soft spoken, respectful and did not flaunt himself like some boxers do. Chavez was a class act and an ultimate warrior in the ring. If Chavez and Mayweather fought in their prime, Mayweather would do laps around the ring and avoid getting into a brawl with Chavez.

Also, lets not forget about the Klitschko brothers who have dominated the HW Division for years.

How do you think the Klitscho brothers would have competed in the stacked HW division of the 90s?

Erik Morales: El Terrible
Marco Antonio Barrera: The baby faced assassin awesome name!

I would say a mentally stable Tyson would have been dominate over the Klitschkos and anyone else in that division, including Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield and Buster Douglas. Although I think a prime Wladimir or Vitali would have beat Evander or Lennox Lewis.

What are people's thoughts on the new and upcoming 6'3 Super Middle Weight Champ Gilberto Ramirez?
