The summer session is over and most programs slide the basketballs back into the cage. Many basketball players turn in their KD’s for football cleats (I don’t know a popular cleat). To end the summer I want to share something that might get people talking.
Today, I release a summer review to preview of next season. The rankings will change drastically by November 1st, 2015 but for fun or debate here we go.
DISTRICT PREDICTION
District 1-5A
1. Gallup 6-2
2. Piedra Vista 6-2
3. Farmington 5-3
4. Aztec 1-7
5. Miyamura 1-7
Quick Hit: Gallup wins the tiebreaker. Piedra Vista maybe the Farmington of a year ago?
District 2-5A
1. Capital 5-3
2. Espanola 5-3
3. Del Norte 4-4
4. Bernalillo 3-5
5. Los Alamos 0-8
Quick Hit: Could be a win at home type of thing and hope you don’t drop any home ones. Capital could get the edge with summer and returning hype.
District 3-5A
1. Centennial 8-2
2. Los Lunas 8-2
3. Belen 7-3
4. Santa Teresa 5-5
5. Valencia 2-8
6. Chaparral 0-10
Quick Hit: Centennial is the favorite but could struggle against improved Los Lunas and Belen on the road. Too many long bus drives. Belen stumbled against ST on the road.
District 4-5A
1. Roswell 4-2
2. Goddard 4-2
3. Artesia 4-2
4. Lovington 0-6
Quick Hit: Roswell won the point deferential and tiebreaker but all split with each other and win at home.
District 5-5A
1. Grants 6-0
2. St. Pius X 3-3
3. Moriarty 2-4
4. Albuquerque Academy 1-5
Quick Hit: Grants has had one of the most impressive summers and could run away with the DC. Moriarty under year two of Trujillo gets a home win fueled by Flaming against Pius.
THE SUMMER TOO EARLY PRESEASON RANKINGS (Will Change by November)
1. Centennial
2. Grants
3. Roswell
4. Goddard
5. Belen
6. Gallup
7. Capital
8. Los Lunas
9. Artesia
10. Espanola Valley
11.Piedra Vista
12. Farmington
13.Santa Teresa
14.St. Pius X
15.Del Norte
16.Bernalillo
17.Valencia
18.Moriarty
19.Albuquerque Academy
20.Lovington
21.Aztec
22.Los Alamos
23.Chaparral
24.Miyamura
Skinny: Gave myself :30 seconds to rank all 5A teams. It was difficult and more difficult than doing the 6A. Don’t know if I’m sold on how it came out but with :30 it is what I am thinking.
STATE TOURNAMENT 2016
The seeds are different from ranking because of District predicted finish, etc.
1st Round
1. Grants v 16 Santa Teresa
2. Centennial v 15 Bernalillo
3. Roswell v 14 Del Norte
4. Capital v 13 Farmington
5. Gallup v 12 St. Pius X
6. Los Lunas v 11 Artesia
7. Goddard v 10 Piedra Vista
8. Belen v 9 Espanola
2nd Round
1 Grants v 8 Belen
2 Centennial v 7 Goddard
3 Roswell v 6 Los Lunas
4 Capital v 12 St. Pius X
Final Four
1 Grants v 4 Capital
2 Centennial v 3 Roswell
Championship
2 Centennial over 1 Grants (3 OT): Both teams are GREAT and did a coin flip. To be honest almost went homer and picked Grants even though tails went to the Hawks.
Reminder it's okay to disagree or debate how any should look. You should tell me why I am wrong it lets us talk hoops and pass time during these summer hours.
