Tuesday Hoops in Week 5
6A Game of the Night: Santa Fe (6-2) vs Espanola Valley (5-0). Both teams are ranked and the 6A team in the game - Santa Fe - has the opportunity to get a signature win over a Top-25 team.
5A Game of the Night: Roswell (4-1) vs Carlsbad (3-3). Roswell is the 5A team in the game. They suffered their first loss of the season but have a chance to recover against a good, top-25, Carlsbad team.
4A Game of the Night: Portales (2-0) vs Goddard (4-4). Portales is the 4A team in the game and they have a chance here to give them a look. Sort of in the group of unknown 4A teams this season, Goddard is a vulnerable team to get a quality win.
Rivalry Game: Bernalillo (2-5) vs Grants (4-2). It's been 12-years since the brawl in the Port but this one puts a rivalry of two towns that is still underrated for the term rivalry.
Playoff Implications: Lordsburg (7-1) vs Cobre (2-4). It's a cross classification game but the Cobre Indians are the 4A team that need a win here. However, for Cobre it won't be a bad loss as Lordsburg could be a 2A favorite.
Hurt/Help: Alamogordo (5-4) vs Silver (5-1). This game could be in the hurt/help section for both programs. Alamogordo has played a tough schedule but could need the win to help the resume. Silver is a potential DC and works for the criteria.
Regional SE Game: Hobbs (2-2) vs Lovington (3-5). Anytime two programs from the same region square off the hype shouldn't need to be there. Both of these teams could use a win to get things on track.
Regional NW Game: Piedra Vista (4-3) vs Shiprock (2-7). The Panthers are ranked in the Top-25 (No. 25) this week but this one could be a trap game for them with a historically good Shiprock program.
On the Fringe Game: St. Pius X (4-2) vs Gallup (2-5). Gallup will play in their fifth game in six days (took off Sunday) as both programs are surprisingly on the fringe of the Top-10 for 5A basketball. Both will likely be the teams you see in March after a slowish start.
