Week Six of the Volleyball is underway, let's take a look at the volleyball scene in New Mexico. Several unknown questions around the state but a few teams have taken the leap forward. Big recruiting news, undefeated teams and players surging as the best in the state. Let's go!

THE FAVORITES BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THE SEPTEMBER 21ST PICK

6A: We are only taking one team right now. The La Cueva Bears at 8-0 and currently ranked No. 1 in the NMPreps.com Top-25 are the favorite. Not because they are #1 (as you will see in the next classification) but they have the makings to be a special team that goes perfect throughout the season.

5A: Centennial has to be the favorite right now at 7-1 and without a loss to any New Mexico team. The defending 5A champs had plenty return and they are just a dominate team. What is not to like about this team at the moment. They have played a contender in Los Lunas and took the match 3 games to none.

4A: Hope Christian. Okay, this might come to some surprise as the Lady Huskies are not the No. 1 team in 4A, that would be the Sundevils of Sandia Prep. However, the Huskies suffering three losses have three "good" losses. Yes, I said that because they come to La Cueva (No. 1 overall), Cibola (No. 3 overall) and a Volcano Vista team that right now is playing better.

3A: Texico. 2A: Magdalena 1A: Santa Fe Waldorf.

TOP 6: STILL UNBEATEN

The list of unbeaten is impressive after 5-weeks of playing. Some teams might actually run the table the season and win the entire thing without a loss on their resume.

La Cueva (8-0) - 6A
Roswell (9-0) -5A
Sandia Prep (7-0) - 4A
Wingate (6-0) - 4A
Newcomb (8-0) - 3A
Navajo Prep (4-0) - 3A

BOTTOM 4: WELL THE 'NOT' UNBEATEN, SEARCHING FOR NUMERO UNO

Too soon to pack it up until next season but the teams are still looking for their first win of the season in 6A-3A. Do we think any team should really pack it up - NO. However, a lot of work is needed until you hit the state tournament. Will any go winless? Maybe 1 from this list but who knows.

Rio Rancho (0-7) - 6A
Highland (0-7) - 6A
Grants (0-7) - 5A
N.A.C.A (0-4) - 3A

ONE HIT WONDERS: RANKING THEM

1. Centennial - 5A - 7-1
2. Cibola - 6A - 7-1
3. St. Pius X - 5A - 5-1
4. Texico - 3A - 7-1
5. Moriarty - 5A - 8-1

The darling of the bunch is from 3A, the Top-25 ranked Texico team. They have an early season win over Eldorado on their resume, if that doesn't say favorite.... I don't know what does. Centennial as I mentioned above looking solid. But... Yes but.. I like St. Pius X.

FIVE WEEK STANDOUTS: 7 MISS VOLLEYBALL CANDIDATES?

Why the question mark, Grine? Well, the season is hit or miss on information coming through either by coaches or through stats by email or text. The season is still young and plenty could shake up the list.

Lyric Ellison, Volcano Vista/SR: Ellison came into the season a preseason All-State favorite and doing damage for the Top-25 ranked Lady Hawks. Ellison currently has 122 kills to lead the state of New Mexico.

Catherine Kelly, Sandia Prep/SO: Only a sophomore Kelly has done more than what the stats read (.437 hitting percentage) but a young leader for the undefeated Lady Sundevils. Talented- yes! Could be a dark horse to win it but we have our eye on you.

Alina Vanecek, Albuquerque Academy/SR: From 5A Vanecek does a little of everything for the Chargers. A .415 hitting percentage, 109 kills and likely more that we are missing has us noticing the 5A player.

Jordan Holland, Los Lunas/SR: She has been the talk from several around New Mexico, she displays her athleticism each and every night.

Savannah Bush, Centennial/SR: Another without much information out as far as stats go but Bush has been a crucial part to the Lady Hawks success to this point. A gem in the state that will, should be a next level player.

Bridgette Lowe, Eldorado/SR: At, 112 Kills Lowe has been on our radar since the preseason and she only gets better. The Lady Eagles are playing better and she is becoming a name to know more and more as the season goes on.

Abigail Stomp, La Cueva/SR: You can find Stomp on many lists and also regarded as one of the best players in the entire state. A commit to Northern Arizona Stomp will be a favorite for the award late in the season. 239 Assists, 40 Total Blocks, and 36 kills. Just to name a few.

Rose Moon, Santa Fe Waldorf/FR: The only freshman on the watch right now we had to consider Moon who plays for one of the best teams in 1A volleyball. She will be a fun one to watch for the next four years. 5'8 freshman with 109 kills on the year, she had 18 in the last contest.

THIS AND THAT

If you know any player who would be willing to interview with me, maybe you read the one-on-one with Amaya Brown a basketball player, that is what I am looking for. Have them shoot me an email grinejosh@yahoo.com. Also, please send in scores, stats and updates to (505) 414-4313. If you are a coach don't hesitate to give us updates. I hope to be out soon to catch more games.

RECRUITED, SIGNED, AND COMMITTED
