I just started re-reading The Heisman by Bill Pennington. Highlights the Heisman winners from 1935 to 2004. (how they grew up/accomplishments outside of football/impressive feats on the football field)

I'll add a few notes from time to time as I move through the book. Today I read on Herschel Walker who grew up in Wrightsville, Georgia. He had a total of 6 siblings and grew up poor as poor. At the age of 10 he began to do 3,000 sit-ups and 750 push-ups per day!!! He was 6-foot-2, 222 pounds and valedictorian of his class. During his senior year he ran for 3,167-yards and 45 touchdowns. College scouts moved to Wrightsville (literally) to recruit him. He signed with Georgia. His freshmen year he ran for 1,616-yards and helped the Georgia Bulldogs finish a perfect 12-0 winning their first National Championship Game. He tells Pennington in the book that still to this day he does 3,000 sit-ups and 750 push ups per day.
