LAS CRUCES >> Las Cruces native Tony Mancha threw a no-hitter for Team USA men's softball in its 10-0 win against the Dominican Republic Sunday at the Pan American Games in Toronto to start round robin play.
Mancha, who named 2014 USA Softball Male Pitcher of the Year, struck out eight and walked one in a six-inning complete game performance.
USA played Canada on Monday night, but Mancha was not the starting pitcher on Monday night. He did come in, in the fifth inning on Monday, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts, one walk and surrendered a home run. Mancha was charged with the loss to fall to 1-1 in the tournament. USA will play Venezuela in a round robin game on Tuesday at noon Mountain time.
