Los Lunas High School returns for the season after a 13-16, 7-4 season. The Tigers played for the District 3-5A tournament championship and a playoff birth.
Overview: The Los Lunas Tigers are the team that people are not overly hyped on nor are they have the radar lacking any respect. Many may believe the Top-25 ranking and (No. 4 NMPreps.com 5A Rankings) is high for a team coming off a below .500 season. Two things we considered with this team, giving them such a high ranking. First, they have arguably one of the top head coaches in the state. Julian is one of the old school type of coaches that will scout everyone, have his team prepared for any opponent and make proper adjustments. Secondly, they have one of the more exciting, young, rosters in the classification. They do graduate five but return several top players, one in particular we mentioned in our 25 Guards to Watch for the 2015-2016 season in Hunter Wisneski (2017).
Last Season
Record: 13-16, 7-4
Home Record: 8-4
Away Record: 3-7
Neutral Record: 2-5
Post Season: First Round; Lost to Roswell (66-43)
Points per game: 43.44 (1260)
Points against: 46.58 (1351)
Realistic Prediction: We do have this young squad ranked high, we covered that, but what is the realistic prediction for a team ranked that high but a team that young? Right now we could place them in the 15-19 win category and Elite Eight or better talk. They will battle with 8 to 9 teams that we could see making the Final Four games. We limited them from reaching the 20-26 category because they typically play a tough schedule, will travel a lot (an insane amount in district - which is ridiculous in my opinion) and we mentioned they are young(ish).
District Champ: 90%
Playoff Team: 100%
Elite Eight: 95%
Final Four: 90.5%
Title Game: 80%
Returning Players: Wisneski was mentioned above be he is not alone on highlight the players for the Tigers. Kayden Walker (2017) and Zanen Zeller (2019) are two other guards in this backcourt that are worth the watch. Zeller will only be a freshmen this coming season and one of the highest praised freshmen on the scene. The other was mentioned for Eldorado High School in Albuquerque. This roster is the best, most underrated, roster in the state and we can't wait to see it take off.
